.... it, you build it! pedal kits

mods, move this to the appropriate forum

i'm not sure if shes flirting with me, or just trying to be really quirky
and i'm not technically advanced when it comes to pedals, so i'm not sure what kind of pedals can you make with this kit if you can make more than just one.

but its a cool concept where you get to make your own pedal. you can watch the video where she makes the pedal:

and her website is:
Catalinbread "F*CK IT. YOU BUILD IT."

She makes me laugh. I lol'd at the Tricorder.

I've never found much value in the "build it yourself"er kits.

I prefer BYOC - The World's Finest DIY Guitar Effects Kits. But either way...

It's a pretty cool accomplishment to do one of these. You really need to take you're time if you're relatively inexperienced with soldering. I felt like a million bucks after I made my compressor, especially since it made my old rig come to life.

i know its not the same, but my very first guitar was a saga strat guitar kit. yes, i painted it, and put it together myself. yes, it looked butt ugly, yes i sold it about a year and a half later. but the knowledge i gained from making my first guitar instantly jumped me a few years in terms of knowledge. i was actively conversing with luthiers and guitar junkies who had been in it since the 60's, while my first guitar was made in 2005...and prior to that, i knew nothing about guitars other than slash kicked lots of ass on it...

That's a rather immature video. It won't help people take these kits seriously.

Leave no stone unturned until I'm done.

That video was painful to watch for some reason. Not that I would anyway, but now I'm really not going to buy a kit.

kits are a good way to start into building pedals, though don't expect it to work without LOTS of troubleshooting. just like with programming, you often spend most of the time debugging a circuit until you get it to work. especially with increasing number of components and pots.

for somebody who's just starting, i'd strongly recommend starting by building a simple boost (super hard on, for example) or an AB switcher.

beware that kits are also mostly pricey and often won't be much cheaper than buying the cloned pedal used.

edit: can't watch the video for some strange reason?
