Bulb's Impulse Buy Story (pics of course!)
So let me preface this by saying that i am jewish, and my parents and I NEVER impulse buy anything haha! However i was in the market for a new 6 string and the rules were, it had to play well, it had to be crunchy and it needed 24 frets but i wanted to pay under 400 and 350 would be perfect. So i went to the local used instrument shop (where i buy 90 percent of my gear) and i was checking out this schecter c-1 elite that was a bit beat up and fugly but played and sounded surprisingly nice, you know one of those guitars that you sorta scoff at when you look at it, play it for shits and giggles and it ends up being fucking brilliant in your hands! The pickups had even been replaced to some dimarzios of some sort, and it played real nice and sounded great even though the strings were dead. I had bargained it down to 350 but i figured just to be safe i would do a once over of the store to see what was there.
Then i saw it... It caught my eye, i had never seen one in person, i had always wondered what they would feel and sound like, so naturally i grabbed it. First thing i noticed was how light it was, well of course its a semi hollow body guitar it makes sense. I plugged it in to the Peavey XXX i was playing the schecter thru previously and oh god how i was blown away. If you dont already know i LOVE crunch/chugchug/djent/whatever you call that sound, and this did it more than ANYTHING i had ever heard. But the pickups were the standard pickups, the neck was surprisingly effortless to play even though it wasnt the flattest and it was painted, and the guitar itself just seemed to bring the best out in me i jammed on it for a good 30 minutes before i had a good look at the price tag... 1000 dollars! My heart sank, i knew from the moment i played it that i had to have it, but 400 was my max and im jewish (also a poor musician which does not help matters...) I played it some more while thinking of what i should do, my head was saying "no way! are you crazy, thats 1000 bucks!! thats like a million dollars!!" but my gut was saying "walk out of this store sans this guitar and you will regret it forever..." So i made a deal with myself, if i could get the guitar for 800 bucks i would buy it and that would be all, if not, then i was meant to have the schecter. I bargained with the guys there and they worked with me cuz they are good guys and i got it for 800 plus tax. I cant stop playing this damn guitar, its so addictive, something about it, maybe they lined the frets with fingercrack or something, but i just cant stop!! I stayed up until 5am playing this damn thing last night, im sooo happy i got it, definitely an underrated guitar than not many people seem to have given a shot mainly because you will only find em used and this is the first used one i have ever seen. Ok i have been a jerk all this time, the guitar is a Carvin, that makes it my second one. And its a Holdsworth Fatboy model and i absolutely LOVE IT! It is the CRUNCHIEST guitar i have ever played, i dont know why, but even though it looks like the opposite its amazing for metal! Anyway i have filled this thread with more than enough words here are some pics!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Wheee! Oh btw there is one thing i should add, the guitar didnt have any dings or anything in it BUT it was a bit smudgy, what would you guys reccomend for cleaning and polishing it? |

Cool guitar, the neck/fretboard is raised a bit too much for my liking but it looks great.

Wow, that guitar looks thick as hell.. Looks cool though.

Holy shit, are them fuckers ugly!
![]() But who gives a shit what I think. It sounds good, according to you, plays great, and you're happy. That's all that counts. (I wouldn't mind giving one of those a try, though, just because the concept seems really interesting. Wish they made it in a 7, with a piezo bridge.)
