Prestigious NG(+F)D (56k turn back)
I bought an Ibanez RGA121 a week ago. It was pretty beat up, so I figured I'd refinish it before posting a NGD
I sanded all the finish off, removing all dents and scratches in the process. Both on the neck, which had a fugly yellow'ish glossy finish and the body, which was just crackling and scratched all over. Then I gun-stock oiled it all. A very thin and smooth layer on the neck, and a few more layers on the body. Only downside is that the serial on the back of the headstock was removed in the process. Here are some work in progress shots: Fugly gloss on neck: I shouldn't have to tell you how it plays. Beautiful wizard neck, sick sustain, and some great versatile tones with the Dimarzio X2N and SD '59. Sounds and plays amazingly. Gotta love the gibraltar bridge. Before/After shots: ![]() Final money shots: The end |

well, you did take closeup pictures of the serial number before you sanded it, didn't you?
anyway, nice way to revive an old beater! I approve!

For a second there, I thought you were routing it for a Floyd (which would have kicked copious amounts of ass, btw). Still, nice job with the refinish.

Looks great. 1,000,000 times better. The back looks awesome. I probably would have left the finish on the back of the headstock.

Looks great! I have always disliked the Violin Flat finish RGA121's... This looks much better!

I cringed when you first said you sanded the finish off, because I love that Violin Flat, but that came out looking so much better! Awesome work man

I love the look of that. It looks just like the NTF finish. I would restain the back to the darker, VLF finish and stain the top dark blue.

I like the natural maple, but I'm a huge sucker for the VLF. Would have liked to see it stained darker. Still looks great though. Those RGAs are on my list of to-gets.

I see you also switched the pickup selection from the bridge position to the neck; good call.
![]() Seriously though, that is QUALITY. Great work! "Whether it's Rogaine, your 'stache or magic, this guitar needs a friggin beard now." - BangandBreach Is it a right to remain ignorant? I don't know, but I refuse to find out! |

I love these guitars!
It does look way cleaner, I'd probably re-stain it though myself. Maybe a dark Walnut... .... yeah, walnut. Formerly known as Fun111, don't be thrown off by the avatar!!!!!! My Soundcloud My project on Facebook: Rook |
