I really don't like Variax style guitars. Sure you can get the great sounds out of them but when you play them it feels like your missing something. That something for me is the neck, your getting the sounds but it doesn't feel like your playing a 59' LP, it feels like a crummy inexperianced Line 6 neck with the 59' sound, that ruins the experience for me.

That is a nice guitar... Is it possible to make a 7stringed variax in any way? Not that I would get one but still interesting.

I don't see why not; all you'd have to do is install Variax electronics on a piezo-equipped 7-string, and get it all wired correctly...

Yeah, the Line 6 guitars still don't seem that great. Building the same electronics into a decent guitar (like the Adrian Belew model Parker) is the way forward for sure.
I don't think they're meant to be a substitute for decent instruments... I get the impression they're intended more for people who want to put home studios together, or gigging musicians who need several different guitar sounds per gig, but don't have the space or time to keep changing guitars.
