The JS30KE Mod Gone wrong! (56k go commit suicide)
Alright. I love Marty Friedman (no surprise) so 2 years ago, I bought a Jackson JS30KE to mod. I bought a custom TRC, Duncans and a new neck, and it played great, easily up there with my RG5xx's IMO. But I got bored with it, and after trying to sell it with no takers, Figured now was the time I would attempt to see if I could do a veneer job..
Well.. It didnt work... I bought a veneer off some website for like $5, but it was total junk. It wouldnt be cut by an exacto knife, only way I could cut it was with huge scissors and it would crackle instead of cut straight.. So I couldnt really apply it on.. So after being frustrated with it, I figured I would just paint it and get it back together =/ So due to the filling of afew chunks missing, the paint didnt settle right in some places, and sanding didnt help either (I spent an hour by hand because I dont have a sander, and just said fuck it) So I was going to try doing a crackle/grunge finish... Well it kinda worked, it worked on the headstock, but unfortunately didnt work too great on the body.. After having this sit there for like 5 months half sanded and crap, I just got fed up and wanted to at least get it done, so I just did a very grungy paintjob, 5 coats of clear and that was it. Thankfully with my hardware it doesnt look TOO horrible, but kinda wish I didnt have that red knob and blue x2n now that the paint scheme was changed from orange quilt to black.. because now it looks kinda weird.. But eh what can you do.. Live and learn I guess, Reason why I don't think I'll ever attempt a paintjob again =[[ Even tho the paintjob is horrible, It came out alright I think. I need to adjust the action abit, and I think im going to put a JB back in it, because the x2n is abit too tight for it, but it still plays great for a $400 guitar.. Heres pics.. Kinda weird but still cool IMO.. Ignore the bad glare.. my camera sux, and it was raining outside so no natural sunlight or good lamps around O_O ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

x2 it looks like cake frosting instead of paint.. time to sand some more.. just let it sit for a while if you lost interest and pick it up at another time.. but for the love of all that is sacred, dont leave it like that. |

It helps to sand it to a flawless finish BEFORE you apply paint.

its not fun sanding without a sander..
Oh well, point is it still plays good =] maybe ill get around to repainting, i might just part it all out and sell it too =[ the neck is great, and the blue x2n is a rarity, so those can get some decent money in my city where dimarzio's go for $160 new =/ |

Damn, just borrow a sander, lay waste to that paint job, put the knob where it should be, paint it neon yellow, and call it a day.
Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high, Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie, Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally. Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread Its branches like a Temple overhead. ~Charles Baudelaire http://www.myspace.com/impurity Brutal Skullfucking Death Metal |

You must know someone with a sander? Try and borrow one, sand it down and have another go. What was that neck off originally?

Sanding by hand isn't that hard. Use a sanding block, start with coarse grit to level things off, then go progressively higher to remove the sanding marks left by the previous coarser grit sandpaper.
People sand by hand all the time and get great results. |

I did, but the stuff i used to fill the wood isnt sanding down well.. its like concrete (lol not really, but i dunno wtf it is)
Anyways, im pretty sick of this project anyways, ill most likely just sell it either whole or part it, assuming I can get a certain guitar I want |

What the heck did you use to fill it? I've used auto body filler to fill voids and holes in wood and metal, and it sands really easily.
