It's a matter of string gauge really, though at a longer scale length you can get away with thinner strings. I certainly wouldn't go longer than 25.5 for drop C, especially when some bands even use 24.75 for straight B. I tried a baritone tuned to B, it was far too tense to get any nice pinch harmonics or anything. I would probably consider one if I could get lighter strings or if I was going any lower.

For my taste in tone - long scales & thin strings - I'd definitely choose the baritone.

I have an ibby (25.5") 270 DX that's tuned to G (GCFA#DG). I'm using the Ernie Ball "beefy Slinkies" with an added .72 for the E.

What are we if not?

I used to do Drop C on my RGT42 with 11-48s. Then the band decided to play in E standard. =/

I use my baritone 6-string in drop-C quite a bit actually.

I use a Yamaha Drop 6 guitar for C standard tuning and it feels great (25.75" scale with 11-56 gauge strings) and it feels great. If it's what you're comfortable with, go for it.

since i dont like drop tunings really, i'll just say, yeah, i'd do C standard on a Baritone. it'd probably be snappy as hell and sound awesome.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

Daron Malakian used to use baritones live for drop C because it had a better attack and low end chunk. I think it would be a great idea!

I'm assuming he's going to want to mass produce these rack pies, and why not? I love racks, I love pies, so put them together and you have pie covered titties. - JJ

I wish that were true. He's always used 24.75"-scale I think. (unless the Iceman series is 25.5"-scale, in which case he used that)

He's only ever used the Iceman series, and now Gibson SGs.

He had a couple custom Ibanez Icemans that were baritones, back when he still used Iceman guitars. There's a video on youtube of him showcasing one of them.
