Buckethead Signature Les Paul - First Impressions

First of all I'd like to thank Axl Rose for introducing Bucket to Les Paul's. Without him, this guitar would never have existed.

Finally after nearly a 6 month wait I picked up my Buckethead signature yesterday. Due to a major stuff up regarding customs, it's been sitting in a brokers warehouse for the last 7 days.

Within 5 minutes of unpacking the guitar I broke the high E string and my locking tuner jammed > All fixed now, but that was the last thing I needed after waiting 6 months lol.

The first thing I've noticed is that the 27" scale is perfectly fine, and I don't have huge hands. If no one told me it was a larger scale and larger body I don't think I would have noticed the difference. That said, because of the higher tension strings it just feels easier to play than a standard scale for some reason. Going back to my Ibanez RG J Custom the strings feel like spaghetti. I prefer the feel of this Les Paul a lot more.

Acoustically, the tone is amazing - the guitar resonates big time. I can even hear elements of Bucket's tone without plugging it in.

From what I can tell, the fit and finish is very good to excellent, certainly much better than I was expecting.

The intonation was out on 5 out of the 6 strings, but because it's a 24fret guitar setting the intonation was a snap. (check note at 24th fret, if flat shorten the string, if sharp lengthen the string)

I'm loving the blank fretboard, I've wanted one for years and it's just as good as I imagined.

Size comparison with an Ibanez RG;

Merlin approves;

The tone has a sweetness unlike any Les Paul's (or any electric guitar) I've played before. This is no doubt due to the 27" scale, you can really feel and hear the extra attack of the notes when you pick a string. The notes just seem to jump off the fretboard. I need to buy a new amp to do this guitar justice, the POD X3 and my practice amp are not worthy!

I that guitar.

Anyone know where I can get an arcade style button like that? I've been wanting to do a killswitch like that for ages (even before I found out that Buckethead had one like it)

I'm pretty sure it's a Sanwa 20mm button. Should be very easy to find.

The square lame ones are easy to find, the circular ones are harder

Just Google "Sanwa 20mm button". You can find those exact buttons in the very first link.

My main setup:
Ibanez uv7bk green dot, Engl fireball 60, genz benz g flex 2x12.

It is, without a shadow of a doubt, the Buckethead signature LP.

So I guess that is THE guitar to get for fanbois like moi, thanks for clearing that up. The Ibanez Les Paul style guitars have a nice shape, but the scale is so tiny. This thing looks huge. Congrats, live large!

So glad you said it differed from the "les paul" tone. Rightfully ....in so, for too many reasons to list....
I'm thinking CLIPSSSSSSS. NOW.

Each time I've seen bucket live the ....er stays on the distortion channel on his Mesa, even for all the clean songs, just rolled the volume and picked like an angel. I want to see how this thing is in action in the hands of mortals

Maybe it's a promotional gag, you stay the weekend, get a jar of blood

Did Gibson just use some of their own pickups for this? I want to say it's a shame they didn't do an X2N set but I imagine it would turn people off

All you need for a guitar to sell is to put a crapload of Gibson signatures and Gibson hardware/electronics on it

With that said, I think Gibson have never used anything but Gibson pickups except for their failed attempts to make metal guitars that come with EMGs.

Gibson pickups are generally awesome though so it's not a big deal

OK .. It is a ton bigger than a Standard.. Now the million dollar question- How heavy is that thing? Or is it chambered? My Gibson Standard is heavy as hell...

Very nice guitar. Is there any difference at all between the two buttons, or are they just there to offer alternate positions?
