This = awesome, and Torre is the man.

Fuck Steinbrenner. He held the axe over his head all season, made the public know that he was all over him, and tried to control Torre like the prick that Steinbrenner is.

Torre telling him to politely shove his job up his ass = . Torre's one of the most well-liked and respected managers in baseball. The fans love him, the players love him, and for 12 years he got the Yankees to the playoffs, with 4 championships. That's a great legacy, and his bowing out gracefully makes Steinbrenner look like even more of a giant asshole than he already is. (If that's even possible).

This was Hank and Hal, not George. George aged a lot the last two years, and at a suddenly very old 77 they just drag him out for show now. George always did whatever the fuck he wanted to do; when you hear the word "meetings" around anything related to the Yankees these days that means george isn't involved.
But, Torre did say he would take another job managing somewhere else for less than Yankee money; the press conference just ended.
