Metal in the current world

Where the hell is it mainly at?
The UK seems to fade in and out with it, but that's most bands around the UK are now pop punk / indie bands. You'll still have your metal gigs, but it's not as big as it used to be here.

I'm not to sure what the US is like for it, or the rest of Europe.
I'm from South Wales, the only half decent places to have metal gigs so far is Newport, Swansea + Cardiff

Would be good if people could put input or the scene around where they live.
I'm finding it starts dying, then coming back and it's gone again. Bit of a strange one over here, but then it's down to the promoters a lot of the time as the main people who go to gigs are scene kiddies that want to see Metro Station and crap like that haha.

And this is why I actually liked the new metal era. It had a lot of ...., thatīs true, but some of the fans actually got interested in metal because of it, metal was kinda "hot" at that time, event though most of it was bogus, it was good for the genre.

I ....ing DESPISE EVERY INDIE ACT from the 2000īs. Itīs ridiculous, itīs ...., I canīt understand the appeal of it. Indie + Emo are Full of Fail to me and I seriously canīt understand why people like stuff like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Killers. Times are bad not just for metal, but for good music in general, thank god the underground exists (and sites like sevenstring.org) to save us.

Yeah this is a great site, shows that there's still hope yet haha
Over here, even the underground is dying down.
I'm moving to London next here and apparently over there it's even worse, I'll see though.

What's it like over in Brazil for the metal scene?

The largest percentage of music I listen to would be from Sweden, Massachusetts, or California.

Sweden- Meshuggah, In Flames, At the Gates, Unleashed, Bloodbath, Opeth, Carnal Forge, Darkane, Soilwork, Dark Tranquility, Zonaria, Hypocrisy

Massachusetts- Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Unearth, Shadows Fall (mostly old), Diecast, The Red Chord

California- All Shall Perish, Winds of Plague, Megadeth, Metallica, Testament, Slayer, As Blood Runs Black, Machine Head, Divine Heresy, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Avenged Sevenfold, The Faceless, As I Lay Dying, Austrian Death Machine

Haha, ah damn such a good tune. One of the funkiest riff's I think I could possibly think of from there.

Let's hope that the next decade it'll all change for the better.
Any idea what the underground scene is like in Nottingham Hawkevil?

I don't really go to see bands much but from what I know there is quite a few punk bands...

I really want to get gigging some of my music and mix it up a bit haha...

It's just really difficult to find an awesome drummer...

Drummers are a royal pain in the ass. Recently started learning drums hoping to one day be one of the many reliable drummers that people search for.
A global thing then the lack of good committed drummers?

Suggestion, if you've got a load of your own material, why not self produce some of your tracks?
That's what I'm doing at the moment, I've got all the MIDI for the drums down, I'm just searching for a better drum program. Thinking about getting Metal Foundry, I think that's what it's called. Same developer as EZDrummer.
You just want to humanize the sounds if you have the option to make it sound more real.

^ i'm trying self-producing thing right now.

it's cool because you do what you wanna do at all times, but it gets really frustrating with having to play all the instruments and i'm absolutely horrible with recording software (i think that's where the bulk of my frustration lies i probably would have wanted to learn extra instruments anyway to be honest) because every time i sit down and try to record something someone wants to bug me...

It's always a bit surreal to hear about people who don't have much of a metal scene, when you live in Sweden :p Most clubs or venues that I've played, I've shared the bill with almost exclusively metal or hardcore bands. And I've never had to play with a bad drummer

Yeah dude, I love that band. Unfortunately, I only have one album, Infamy and the Breed. I can't seem to locate The Cancer Empire.

Sweden sounds pretty interesting.
Know of any major festivals there?

Might go on holiday there sometime if possible.
Meshuggah, At The Gates and Opeth are awesome as well. Three of my favourite bands.
I haven't heard of most of the others that were mentioned from there

Metaltown- All That Remains, Children of Bodom, Evergrey, Meshuggah, My Dying Bride, Napalm Death, Opeth, Slipknot, Trivium, The Haunted, and more.

Sweden Rock- Amon Amarth, Dream Theater, Europe, Foreigner, Flogging Molly, Hammerfall, Heaven and Hell, In Flames, Journey, Soilwork, Unleashed, and more

Sweden Rock Festival is the biggest festival in Sweden, which usually draws some of the legends (such as Heaven & Hell, Aerosmith and Priest, the last few years), aswell as most european metal bands and quite a few american ones.

The other big festivals like Hultsfred and Peace & Love draw a ....load of metal bands too, but they're more diverse. Then there's smaller ones, like Metaltown, Gates of Metal etc. Google them and see if you find anything interesting.
