New guy from ireland

hi, been coming here the odd time and thought i would say a bit about myself
i have been playing for 9 years
i started with a washburn w587 , then i got a schecter c-7 black jack ,then i swapped it in order to realise my korn-hood dream of owning an ibanez 1527 7 string,i actually swapped guitars online, that week i had a bitta cash so i bought a 7321 aswell . now last week i sold m,y 1527 because it was finally time to tell floyd rose to .... off and i finally found a stagemaster for myself so i bought a stagemaster and a floyd roseless schecter c7 ,both of which are in transittd

i also own an 8 string ltd 208 which i barely play cuz of the stock pups but the stocks are comin right out .i have various basses too, generally fretless. was thinking of getting a microtonal augmentation done though.

i have come here to learn how the hell to impliment bass guitar in the mix, general equing is hard for me to comprehend in terms of how the frequency range is so limited and how the guitars are in the same place as the bass.
any ideas on helping this work? apart from of course, changing the music.

Ask enough questions, and you can answer anything.

There's plenty of advice in the recording section regarding mixing guitars and bass. Try the search function, as there's a lot of info there.

Main thing is to;
1. set your drums up so they peak at -6db on your master fader.
2. Bring up the bass to a level your happy with.
3. Bring up the guitars and adjust them so you hear both the bass and the guitar.
4. Balance the guitars and bass with the drums again.

Have a coffee

5. Listen and decide what is missing, which sounds have been obscured? kick perhaps?
6. Use Low pass and high pass filters on your busses/tracks to restrict the frequency range of each instrument to allow clarity.
7. Using the Q on your EQ you can find the frequencies you need to adjust.

If you have to use a lot of EQ, probably consider changing the way you recorded for your next project. It's a massive topic, so that's enough for now. Good luck! oh, and monitors help a lot.
