Baden Acoustic Guitars

I'm in the market to purchase an acoustic guitar. I have been playing classical guitar for about 6 years but have always been in love with the sound and style of acoustic guitars.

I have heard wonderful things about the small company named Baden Guitars and was wondering if anyone has any insight into their models? I have been looking at a used D style guitar from them but I don't know if I want the mahogany or rosewood one. Does anyone know if these are solid top instruments?

My budget is up to $1500 and I would like a solid top guitar. Are there any pitfalls to buying used over a new acoustic instrument?

I'm partial to a simplistic design using high quality materials, which is probably why I fell in love with the design of Baden's guitars.
