Narrowing in on a carvin finish...HELP ME DECIDE!

mods, move this where ever its appropriate...

okie folks, i think ive narrowed down what i want out of my carvin. the pickups will be the last thing i pick as i keep changing my mind with them. but in terms of woods and frets and all, i've picked up what i want. the finish on the top i cant pick....

but the specs are as follows for 3 guitars:

CT3/4-24
finish: gloss classic white
ebony board (no inlays. will add ESP side square/bullets on later on)
mahogany body and neck
neck with a satin finish
(plain maple top if CT4-24)
medium wide SS frets
black trim
gold hardware and covered pickups
string-thru-bod
(if a CT3-24, then i'll had a very thin black pinstripe binding on the body and maybe the neck later on...)

kinda like this:

guitar two:
CT6-24m
finish: either Tiger eye, Teal, or faded denim with thin black burst (not on teal)
mahogany body and neck
tight flame maple top for faded denim, and wide/lazy flame for tiger, tight quilt for teal
ebony board
medium wide SS frets
black trim
chrome hardware
satin back of neck
faded denim will be satin will be satin
no inlays (will either leave this blank or add esp type side square/bullets ltar on)

kinda like this:
faded denim:

tiger eye:

teal:

Guitar 3:
CS6
finish: moss green
mahogany body
flame maple top
cream trim
zebra pickups
gold wilk/vintage trem
4 knobs (vol/tone)
ebony board
satin neck
medium jumbo frets

kinda like this:
Deep moss green (new color, so no real pictures, but inspiration is this

the color can be seen here:
Brian Bromberg Carvin Model - Page 25 - TalkBass Forums

obviously i'll only order one of these...and most likely will order it sometime in september or something...

That's what he's known for (notice the "rockabilly" shirt) around San Diego and YouTube land.

I don't have a 7-string any more and I like fat necks and single-coils, come at me.

I'm torn between tiger eye and teal.

Also, if you dig tiger eye you may want to look into umber stain.

None of those guitars are red, your choices are invalid. Or your lack of choice is invalid anyway.

Choose something more than novel (I would say teal is probably pretty novel, dragonburst and the like definite are). By not choosing something you think is novel or whatnot you greatly increase your chances of keeping the guitar for the long haul, and is why I don't own a V (they look cool but I can see that fading). Green is also always a bad decision.

As far as pickups I highly recommend staying well clear of the M22s, and if you want to play with a bunch of gain remember the H22s are unpotted which narrows your results greatly. The C22T is just a weak C22B, the J is an overly bassy monster that you will need to have disproportionately lower. You don't really win with their pickups outside of clean modes, they lack voice driven (c22s), M22s are the exact opposite, they lack character clean. Overall the pickups are generally some of the most transparent I have run accross, no body to speak of. The twinblades were the best pickups of theirs imo.

All those years lurking and drooling and finally going to order eh? Good luck.

well, the lizard burst, and the dragon burst finishes really dont interest me as i find em fairly ugly to be honest.

i'm just looking for a guitar that is super classy, rare, unique, and beautiful.

as for their pickups, i hear SO many mixed reviews on their C and their M series. if for example, person A says they suck and are the worst pickups ever, person B would contradict that. even folks on other forums think the same. some LOVE them, others HATE them. hardly anyone who is 'meh' with them :S

Seems kind of silly to order a "custom" guitar and then have to swap out the pickups once you get it, don't you think?

Denim and Teal FTW!

If you get Denim make sure you get a Maple Fretboard, look killer with the Denim!

If you're choose faded denim, good luck... carvin apparently has a really hard time duplicating the finish on rob_l's CT.

Also, is this your first carvin? If so, I'm surprised given how frequently you talk about carvin in other threads

This is true but I have NEVER seen a bad looking denim finish from Carvin...

it's not bad... but I certainly expected it to come out darker (even without the black burst).

^ that finish is stunning!

...Each guitarist has an evil fat 40 year old blueswankler trying to get out, If you give in to temptation you'll be sitting next to a fender playing john lee hooker while trying to keep your combover in place.

Which SUCKS because I had actually ordered that guitar originally and because after 2 1/2 months they called me and told me they ....ed up *something* on the guitar and were starting over from scratch I canceled it several weeks into the SECOND build without getting a guitar. It was a deep triple step faded blue jean, that might be why it looks different than the rest of the others that have been done.

Would you have left it to restart if they had told you what went wrong? I am just curious here, as 2.5 months is short by any real shops standard.

The second faded denim (where you see the grain stayed white) looks awesome imo. the danger is in your custom colour will not be returnable, have you ever actually played a carvin? If not PM me, maybe we can arrange something.
