Your favourite video game music composers.

I gotta say my personal favourites are the guys who did the Ridge Racer Type 4 soundtrack.
The game was astonishing but the soundtrack is a work of art all on its own.

I'm gonna have to look into RR4. After reading a post from Misha Mansoor about japanese FF composers, I checked Nobuo Uematsu. I've got a few collections and even though the songs obviously seem contextually inappropriate (not playing a video game at the same time) God are they good. Bring a smile to my face as well...

Then again, I did also love Final Fantasy to death, so I may be a bit biased

Was this developed in Japan? I'm such a japanophile...

I absolutely love 'house' chill/lounge music like this... I guess this isn't exactly an example but acid jazz is the sh##. Easily one of my favourite genres outside of metal.

Yeah, it was developed by Namco, and most of the rest of the soundtrack is just as stellar. Considering these guys were composing for a video game I'd say they easily beat the asses off of most other game composers and even a lot of mainstream musicians.

@ Prydogga - That would be Frank Klepacki (when it was in the hands of Westwood), if I recall correctly he was only 17 when Westwood drafted him in to do the soundtrack for Red Alert. Hell March ftw!

I just remembered I missed one of the most stand out pieces of music I've ever heard in a video game and I think it's something *everyone* needs to listen to it at least once.
I can't remember how many times this put me to sleep.

Masahiro Andoh, responsible for the Gran Turismo theme song:

Sounds kind of like Joe Satriani playing with Jon Lord, never a bad thing really...

God of War 3. Music in that game is few and far between, but when it comes you'll feel it. It's one of the most appropriate soundtracks I can think of.

Jack Wall. Composer for Myst and Mass Effect, which has a stellar soundtrack. Posting from my phone right now or I'd post some youtube links. The guy's amazing and I'm a little disappointed he's not doing the soundtrack for ME3.

The first one wasn't necessarily composed for the game but it brings back memories, and it's a shame they haven't done a remake of Jet Set Radio Future for the Xbox 360.
I'd be willing to exchange a kidney for it.

I should have remembered him, as he was the guy that made me listen to computer game music seriously. Thank you Secret of Mana.

Also, Harry Gregson-Williams music in Metal Gear Solid 2 was also pretty good!

Was going to mention whoever composed the music in Morrowind, but found out it was Jeremy Soule who i mentioned before
