Because not attending a specific ceremony means that you don't care.

Reactions like those in this thread make my stomach turn.

Are you guys in Arlington? If not, I suggest shutting your holes.

ive been there, and ive been vietnam moving wall twice, been to one in mineral wells texas and to several other memorials. i shake the hands of soldiers & vets when i talk to them (not just on memorial day either) and i was not in the military or even born in this country.

this is a special event / tradition ment to honor the military - no president, reguardless of weather we are at war, should miss it!

We are at war where soldier are dying. There are still countless Vietnam and Gulf War vets who are living shattered lives thanks to improper medical and psychological care and this is what people are caring about?

By the way, you folks read this article?

Quote:
he attended last year
Quote:
the president plans to be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., while Vice President Biden takes his place in Arlington for the wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Quote:
The Arlington visit is a fairly recent tradition. Former President Ronald Reagan attended four of them in his eight years in office, while former President George H.W. Bush sent Vice President Dan Quayle to every one. Former President Bill Clinton, though, attended every year and George W. Bush missed only one, in 2002, when he was in Normandy, France, visiting the American cemetery.
Why is this such a huge deal again?

Every president in history except for one has missed it at least once...

It was a dumb thing to do, regardless of whether other Presidents do it or not. Not because he personally isn't recognizing Memorial Day (because he is visiting Abe Lincoln Cemetery, after all) but because it's bad PR. I'd like to think all presidents are judged by the same standard, but alas, the "no flag pin", "cancel national day of prayer", "fake birth certificate" and "oath of office on the Koran" people will be eating this up.

That's exactly why the article above is from FOX news. People feed on sensationalism and articles on Obama are certainly no exception. It's fairly plain that even the people posting above barely even read the article, took the thread title at face value and unveil their ignorance for all to see.

Hilarious swipe at Chicago politics in the comments section, BTW:

Quote:
This is just good politics; Obama is spending his Memorial Day in Chicago to honor the only kind of dead soldiers who matter; the ones that vote.

aside from the fact that you said "sheeple" (reminds me of the goth/emo crowd calling anyone who isn´t following their specific style sheeple), i agree.

Well the opposite generalization could be said as well - everyone regards him as a genius

Look, obviously Fox News has its own brand of spin. That's a given. Did any of you actually read the article, let alone beyond the fact that it's on Fox News' website and think you were going to get some glowing praise for Obama? Or some actual "fair and balanced" reporting????

Personally I don't care what Obama spends his time on, on Memorial Day. I don't like him though and if that means I'm a "Fox News loving, Right-wing parrot" and that's the scope and depth of your (in the general sense) analysis on opposing view points then I think in the long run you'll find that it's YOU that has problems.

Point being, not everyone has to love everything the guy does. And conversely, not everyone has to hate him for no reason or because Fox News tells you, you should. In my opinion, somewhere between being an apple polishing sycophant for him and being a card carrying Klan member, sits people like myself who've yet to see a whole lot of difference between him and any other president that's sucked at their job. And yes that means W, Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan, etc.

As was pointed out in the comments of the Moonbattery article, a lot of what's been left out of the dialog is the fact that the Abraham Lincoln NATIONAL Cemetery is considered a VA recognized national cemetery the same as Arlington.

Wow, all of them, eh? I don't think we'll ever see a "perfect President" since perspectives are always going to be very different from person to person and you can't make everybody happy.

Everybody's obviously entitled to their own take on things but for myself, I lowered my expectations for what I expect to see from somebody and stick by just a few core values. I actually didn't hate Clinton or H.W.
