8 string crazy build

ok so,

I'm abuot 20% of the way through this build and decided to do a thread on it...

i think i'm going insane.

The neck blank-maple and ebony

The Fingerboard-note the fanned frets marked out rosewood wooo

This is where it gets crazy... the CNC routed aluminium body connectory base thingy. the areas with holes in that have lines drawn on are where there will be wood.

The bridge I made with my very hands. oh did i mention its going to be headless?

The general arrangement drawing. This is a school project btw. oh and i hadnt decided on doing fanned frets then.

parts layed out...

going to be sweet if this badlad works. not looking forward to doing the pickups though magnets came in the post today and they could probably lift up my house if it was made of steel. shiiiiiiiiit! so yeah! am i going mad? this is my second guitar... out of depth? yeeeeeees

That design is going to look awesome. I wonder what sonic qualities aluminium has, and also, won't it be a little heavy?

There's been tons of guitars and musical instruments made from aluminum. It has incredible sustain.

Very cool! I love the departure from tradition. How is that pickup going to be suspended there? And how will the neck be fastened?

naaaaaaaaah if anything itll be a bit lighter than a normal body. and yeah it should be pretty resonant if everything stays together properly.

thankyou! the bridge took a good month, i had to make so many prototypes that just failed miserably. i still have to put some saddles on infront of the tubes for intonation but the main work is done.

so yeah, thanks for all the positive comments i probably wont reply like i just have now every day cos this took me like..... half an hour lol

If anyone has any questions ill do a doodle or explain it or something and ill upload pics as it progresses, but im waiting on a truss rod atm.

incidentally, does anyone know where i can get a truss rod ~510mm/20in in the UK?

Vey interesting Resently I've played a lot in my mind with a part-aluminum body; very cool seeing others do it. Very neat work on those tuners.
WRT weight, I can't see this getting too much more heavy than solid wood, because the alu part is of limited dimentions.

You don't think the two rails will provide too little vibrational coupling between neck and body?
I'm not normally a fan of rosewood boards, but this piece looks really great! How hard is it?

Great sketching, an art I'd love to be better at.

thanks yep i dont think weight will be an issue. its a bit of a stab in the dark though in terms of balance, but im hoping since its headless it should be alright.
im using maaaaaassive bits of aluminium bar. like 36mm/15mm. and theyr a foot or so long so theres lots of metal in contact with the body and the neck. should be alright, but you can never really tell if its a new concept, plus cba with doing maths.

the board is like a rock! its about 9mm thick atm but im going to plane it to 6 eventually and put a pretty flat radius on it. nothing too round. and thanks for the compliment!

Well, fo your truss rod question: if you can make yourself a bridge why cant you make a truss rod?

- Give it a rest. Do you really think that this thread is of a serious nature? 8Fingers is reeling you in. He didn't even have to put any ....ing bait on the hook. - CIAM in the 5 Bands you can't stand thread - saying this to toolsound
- It would just be like "BWOMP BWOMP BWOMP" vs the "VRuuuuOOOOmmmmMMRRRROooomRRR" of the engine. - A subwoofer vs. engine sound, by ESP Griffyn
- New used car fund: 0$, I bought one
