Obscura Cosmogenesis guitar tab book available again.

Hey guys, I thought that those of you who like the Obscura guitar tab books would like to know that the physical tab book for Cosmogenesis will be available again on March 1 2017. The book was first released in 2010 and was discontinued a few years later. I have a first print edition and there are a lot of tough riffs/solos in that book to play but anyone who knows Obscura would probably already know that. Awesome book and highly recommended for those who would like to learn their style of music.

Although I don't care too much for modern Obscura, this album is banging. Definitely getting it.

EDIT: Okay, maybe getting it as 35 euros (25 + 10 P&P) is a bit out of my budget.

Some songs are absolutely ridiculous but there are a bunch of riffs & licks which are straightforward enough. It also comes with the solo'd guitar tracks which are awesome to listen to.

Did they ever provide backing tracks for the Omnivium tab book?
I know they corrected them and sent a free version but I cannot remember if they provided them as with the Akroasis and this new Cosmogenesis book.

They are backing tracks for Cosmogenesis? I don't remember getting them. I only have the solo'd guitar tracks.

Hey guys, Steffen from Obscura put out a new Youtube video of him playing the Anticosmic Overload to promote the Cosmogenesis tab book they're going to release this March. What made the video surprising is that he plays the solo that is, as many of you know, originally played by Christian Muenzner. As always, Obscura guitar playthrough videos are inspiring to watch.

Hey guys, the book was originally gonna be released on March 1st but apparently you can order it now. Also, not trying to be a salesperson here but they marked down their 2016 tour shirts from 15 to 5 German Euro. I couldn't resist getting one.

You ordered it on Feb 8 and it arrived last week!!!!!

Wow! That was fast. I thought it would take at least a month for anything from Germany/Europe to arrive here. Hopefully, I'll get my package soon since I live in the state below you.

Don't feel too bad. The shipping and handling cost for my order completely freaking killed me! When the s&h cost nearly as much as the price of the products (I ordered the book and t-shirt, also), it's pretty bad. Luckily for me, Obscura are one of my favorite bands and I don't order so much stuff online so I let the high s&h cost slip this time.

Same here for some items, mate! Try to buy the Devin Townsend book from Spain for example and your pockets will ache for real

Got mine in the mail today. Guitar is transposed. Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I like to see guitars in concert pitch. Cool book, though. Looks accurate from what I can tell.

Really? I received my copy a few days ago and a brief look over the first 2 songs seemed fine.

The solos are usually in E standard, but as far as I am aware, this is something Christian Muenzner tends to do.

That "solo" that is tabbed in Transcendental was actually a piano part in the pre-production, which was kicked out afterwards, I have no clue why it ended up in the book. I sent Steffen the tapping riffs in Vortex and Transcendental tabbed out correctly, but for some reason, he just used the pre production files with the sometimes impossible fingerings (which were changed when recording, sometimes Hannes writes riffs and just writes the notes that need to sound, and we think of our own fingerings when recording) which is why I insisted that the book is not being sold anymore. When I noticed all those errors, the first 2 editions of the book were already sold. This was all very unprofessional and pissed me off a great deal, it did a great harm to the image of the band as it makes us look like complete guitar noobs to the fans, and I feel like ripping people off. All I can do is to apologize about the book.

About live, it is true I recorded some solos in standard tuning, because I think a regular 6 string sounds best in that tuning. Since I sometimes used the 24th fret, I simply change some licks when playing the leads live, I like to improvise a bit here and there anyway. Some parts I needed to change anyway, as I can't perform everything exactly the same anymore since my dystonia has gotten a bit worse since then.

Yeah. The standard notation part reads a major second higher than it sounds. As far as I know, this is standard practice for scordatura in the orchestral tradition. There is precedent, but I've always thought it was a bit silly to write it differently than it sounds. If you tune drop D, are you going to write the lowest note on the lowest string as an E? There are other notational quirks, like the neutral sharps throughout the book. The first arpeggio in the solo for Anticosmic Overload is supposed to be E♭maj7 (sounds D♭maj7), but it's written as D# G A# D, which makes it look like another chord completely. Alas, it's a tab book - the people who buy this kind of thing probably don't look at the standard notation portion as much as I do, and they probably wouldn't be as critical as I am being right now.

IMHO, mistakes like these should be pointed out. I also analyze tab books and look for mistakes and such.

I noticed a really strange thing in the Obscura anthology book. For some reason, Steffen removed the slur articulation signs in the Anticosmic overload solo. In the original book released in 2010, there are several times where you tap a note with your picking hand and pull off to 2 lower notes with your fretting hand and there are also a few hammer-on/pull offs. In the Anthology book, Steffen or whoever, for some reason, removed the slur articulations. Now it's written where you tap the note, but then pick the other 2. Same thing with the hammer ons/pull offs. Instead of just picking the one note and then hammering and pulling off, it's written that you have to pick all 3 notes. I'm sure some guitar players will figure out that you have to tap the highest note and pull off to the other 2 but may not realize the other notes that are close together. Ex. Supposed to be played like this 10p9h10, instead of 10-9-10.

I also ordered the book but have not received it yet. I will spend some time comparing it to the original 2010 version.
