RG7321...no longer in production..or what?
Ok, so with all of these recent posts of people customizing their 7321's they've really caught my eye. I use to have a couple of Ibanez guitars, one of my favs was the RGT320Q, but I never really liked them personally but they were bought for client use at the studio. They are long gone now, but like I said, these 7321 threads have really sparked some interest lately.
My first guitar that I paid for by myself was my second one and it was an Ibanez S470 (before the wave inlays). I really liked that guitar. Despite the tremolo, even though I had only been playing for 6 months at the time I still knew quality when I saw it, being sub-par quality, I really liked it. A lot of my guitar playing friends at the time didn't like it because the 22fret deal and the scale length making the frets so far apart compared to their 24 fret axes and having the same scales. Didn't bother me at all...anyway my point is that it's been a long time since I've played or owned an Ibanez and I can't find anything other than Harmony Central reviews of the guitar (sorry if I don't trust them wholly, ) and I would really like to know the cons of this guitar. I've noticed a lot of people almost immediately replace the pickups, and dye the fretboard, and do other custom things here and there. But the fact that it has binding on the fretboard makes me freak. Why do their higher end models not feature this? Or at least most of them..My search on eBay was killed quickly when all I found was a pickgaurd (???) and some pickups covers for a 7321. I'd really like to know the going used price, or a new price (as I can't find those either) and if it's really worth buying. I would definitely be customizing mine as well, staining the board, replacing pickups, experimenting with a dremel and sandpaper, etc. Any thoughts? ~006+1

Jeannie Pickguards will make you an awesome pickguard with any kind of electronic config. They have a bunch of colors too. They run in the $50 range.
Awesome thing about the 7xx1 series is they're cheap as hell and play so well. |

It's generally accepted that the rg7321 can compete with higher level guitars once you change the pickups.
The neck pickup sounds nice to me. The bridge one lacks clarity. The binding has nothing to do with anything other than aesthetics. http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=RG7321 Ibanez page on the guitar The neck is very comfortable to play, and the fretwork isn't bad (to my knowlege, I'm no fret expert all I know is that the ones on my guitar are filed down nicely and don't cut my fingers. The guitar is pretty straightforward and is pretty much a blank palette for customization. Also I commonly hear people saying that the nut should be replaced and that the tuners should be replaced. I dunno what that's all about but I've never had a problem with tuning stability on mine. |

seeing as the RG7421 is so easy to come by and so cheap, and shares the same neck as the RG7621, i'd buy that before i bought a 7321... if i were ever to buy a production guitar again that is
![]() and fretboard binding does a little bit more than just aesthetics, but its not anything to write home to mom about, it makes for a slightly(very slightly) smoother feel... i'm doing ebony binding on an ebony fingerboard on the superstrat i'm doing, you won't even be able to see it once its all said and done, but it sure will feel just a little bit nicer.

just buy a 7321 neck from your local ibanez dealer. the truth is the neck is the only good part. everything else sucks. cept maybe the body.. and the bridge

![]() And the tuners and everything else, except the pickups. I like the 7321 neck better than the 7620 neck, because it's sturdier. |

What the heck is so bad about it?
Honestly, mine stays in tune, the neck is comfortable to play, it's got a no fuss bridge, and it's made of basswood. What is there to complain about? |
