That is a nice fucking top.

There are a lot of uninspiring looking instruments there. It seems like you and the guy with the V are the only ones who really stepped out of the box. While neither of those two instruments really do it for me, I applaud the two of you for stepping away from the Strat/Tele/LP pack.

i thought that V would turn out better than it did... but a lot of the problem i find in it is the craftsmanship, to me it seems like it was short cutted all over the place, and not enough time was spent on it... his 3rd guitar is the same way, its a rip off of a jackson warrior, but with those cutout things he did on the inside of the V, all over it. he was just going to do a warrior, but i was like "dude you should put your own touch on it instead of doing a copy"... i'm sure it'll be on the website in a couple of weeks when he actually finishes it...

While i'm sure Roberto-Venn produces students with great craftsmanship, they really need to get someone to teach about basic design principles like contrast, symmetry, balance and proportion.

Your class fared pretty well for the most part, but i've looked through some of the past galleries, and it seems about 75% of the guitars that are trying to be "original" end up looking like they were drawn by four-year-olds. Wearing blindfolds.

i totally understand where you are coming from. i don't get how some people who go through this school have no concept of what makes a good guitar good... there are even a few people in my class who don't even have a clue how to play guitar... how do you know what makes a good guitar good if you don't even play?

not impossible. not necissary, but not impossible... you still get 24 on the low B and E the way i did this one.

^ yeah it's totally unnecessary, I never use the 24th fret on my low-a but w/e I like a straight line there ya know.

Leo Fender breaks that rule. He couldn't play a lick. Sometimes it takes someone with an untrained eye to look at something with a fresh perspective. However, I get your point, since Leo is an exception. I don't know any non-players who could get so many thing ergonamically right (as he did on the Strat), without actually having played.

but there were still a ton of improvements made by others to the fender concept, others who actually played guitar...
