Looking to buy an Ernie Ball JP7... Need opinions.
How much you paid, how it plays, any info you can give me would be essential.

I paid $1565 for mine, for a Pearl Redburst with matching headstock and piezo. I didn't get the JP inlays but I just wasn't into them.
I got know down, awesome service from Pete DuBaldo at DuBaldo music. He is killer. I don't know if he's registered over here, but I thought he was. Here's a link: http://www.dubaldomusic.com/ I love the way it plays. I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got. There's a few EB'ers here. |

I got mine for 1400 during a sale period from dubaldo music. White with matching headstock and piezo system no JP inlays. Pete was a pleasure to deal with and the guitar came set up to the T. You will not be disappointed and the guitar plays like butter.

I haven't owned one, but I've played a few, and honestly they play a hell of a lot better than you'd expect. From first look, they look like fender knock offs with that bridge, but actually, it's pretty smooth. It's recessed, and while it's no Lo-Pro, it's very very good. Much better than any fender style bridge.
The neck is ultra thin from front to back, but slightly wider across the fretboard than an Ibanez RG or UV. Very playable, and very fast. The block in the back of the neck can be a pain, but that's really the only true playability downside to the JP7s IMO. Great guitars ![]() |

For starters, it's an original bridge, so in that respect it's better than anything Ibanez has, because it's not a licensed Floyd, but a true original. It floats and flutters like no other, and it stays in tune like no other. Plus, with no locking nut to wear you down, changing strings is a breeze with the locking tuners. As far as set ups go, EBMM JP's can be intonnated and set up in seconds. Simply turn the screw in the back to move the saddles, and for set ups, each individual saddle can be adjusted for height, so that maximum playibility can be acheived. As far as build quality goes, I truly believe no other manufacture comes close. These guitars are hand made, quality guitars, with top quality parts and electronics. They're also very, very comfortable to play. In fact I would put a JP7 up against any other manufacturers six string and I bet the JP7 would come out on top! we'll agree to disagree. It's opinion. I believe the Lo Pro Edge to be the best trem ever made. I've played a lot of trems, and I've come to this conclusion based on personal preference.
As for your quote "it's an original bridge, so in that respect it's better than anything Ibanez has, because it's not a licensed Floyd, but a true original" I have to disagree on principle alone. Just because it's a licensed modification doesn't make it better or worse than something made originally by a company. Seriously, that doesn't even make sense. |

I think his point was that, rather than take an already existing design, and just improving on it, EB went with an all orginal design. In that respect, their bridge is "better", simply because it's a brand new approach to bridge design and it works like a charm. Ibanez already had a platform to go by, not much of a challenge to do what they did, if you ask me. No doubt, the Lo-Pro Edge is a stellar tremolo system, it's just not original in the true sense of the word. It's merely an improvement.

Neither are more original than the other. The Lo-Pro Edge it based on a floyd. And the JP bridge is based on a Fender style trem.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate. We'll cross the streams. |
