How does your 25.5 scale 7 string handle the lower tunings?

hi all, i play an RG1077XL ... i love the neck length for the low G tuning w/o HUGE strings.

here is my question, since i'm used to a nice and tight low G tuning on the 27" scale neck, if I bought an RG1527 or an ESP Viper 407 ... will the shorter neck handle the low G tuning well?

i know it obviously won't be as good as a 27" scale ... what's your experience?

What do you consider HUGE strings?
I tune my 1077 to A, but i use a 68 guage for the A.
I used to have my old RG7620 tuned to A as well... it handled it fine.. but then again, i liked a lot lighter strings back then.

68 guage = HUGE to me, but i guess I wouldn't mind heavier guages on my low G.

i use the 7 string, 10 guage pack for D'Addarios and the baritone length keeps things nice and tight even at G.

here are the specs ...

D'Addario XL EXL110-7 - Regular Light

0.010
0.013
0.017
0.026
0.036
0.046
0.059

so i guess i should not worry about it and go with the 25.5 scale, huh?

^ I use a bit heavier that that for Bb standard: 10-13-17-26-36-48-60

The 60 still feels a loose to me, so when I place my next order I think I'm going to bump it up. Heavier wound strings respond so much better to heavy right hand rhythm work.

If you're going down that low, then 27" would tighten up the sound of the lower strings quite nicely. However, I would still take a quality 25.5" guitar over a 27" guitar that I'm not completely happy with. What is the point of buying a 27" guitar for the tonal improvements, if it isn't as good as what you currently have?

I'd have to totally agree with that, 27" just feels uncomfortable to me.

I was talking about the quality of the instrument itself, not player preference. However, your statement is true. If you are uncomfortable with a longer scale, then all the benefits will be negated by your poorer playing. Which is why I don't own a long scale instrument.
