Rg7321. Does it use real Mother of Pearl?
Sometimes when I look at my guitars inlay they look like plastic. Other times they look like they could be M.o.P. Ibanez's website lists them as "pearl dot".
Does anyone know what they really are? |

what's it matter?
Pearl dot just means it's pearloid, and it is a circle... and what would be "real mother of pearl." Is there actually a specification of pearloids?  |

Real mother of pearl is taken from the inside of a clam's shell.
It's the bi-product of the process that forms the pearl. It's made up of calcium carbonate I think. Abalone is the same but from a rarer species of mollusk that is harder to fish. |

Back on topic...
It's artificial pearl, otherwise known as mother of toilet seat. They wouldn't use real shell on a guitar that cheap. |
