Question Blaze/7620 debate ...

Is there any definate way to tell which pups are which , between New7s' and Blazes ? I've got a '98 7620VK , and while stripping the body for a custom project , I noticed that the pups are definately Dimarzio , and both are 4-wire , red , white , black , and green . No model numbers , just N2 and B2 stamped on the base . I'd provide pics , but my camera is angry with me , and refuses to work . I know this has been beaten to death , but I've never found a clear description of how to tell the difference between the two . Also , the fact that it's an early model year guitar has me questioning if I'm one of the few that really got Blazes . Speculate away ....

To my knowledge, Blazes ended up never getting put in 7620s, despite original plans... I had a 1997 w/ a New 7 in the neck and a aftermarket blaze in the bridge.

That's the thing - I've heard some early ones got 'em , and i've also heard that none got 'em . It's a curious issue , to say the least .

I'm 99% sure no 7620 ever shipped stock with Blaze II's - I'm an ibanez seven string nut, and I've never heard of a single instance. The N2 and B2 markings, either way, peg yours as New 7's.

There is no Blaze II, or was it Blaze? Damnit, there's only one set of pickups with a Blaze name, no matter which it is, and the 7620 didn't have 'em. :p

Blaze II's the Universe pickups. They're slightly different than the Blaze Pickups. which are the ones you can order from DiMarzio. i think they're almost the same...

I was under the impression that the Blaze/Blaze II designation was a typo on someone's part(either Dimarzio or Ibanez).

Why would they special make pickups for the UV, and sell different pickups from the catalog, when the UV was pretty much the only 'rock' 7 string being made at the time? I'd believe that Ibanez made another typo in their catalogs that Dimarzio making 2 different sets of pickups under the same naming system.

I think I might email Dimarzio and ask.. lol

Okay, so they sent me the 'stock' response... Heaven forbid they answer the real question as to if the old UV Blaze II are really the Blaze models with a difference name... Instead they sent me this:

Quote:
The Blaze models on our website are the same models as the pickups in
the Universe. The pickups that Ibanez calls Blaze II are the models that
Ibanez installs as standard on many of the RG 7-strings. The bridge
pickup is pretty similar in performance and specs to a Super Distortion
(DP100), and the neck pickup is similar to a Super 2 (DP104).

That's what I thought. The "Blaze II" is a name for/are the same thing as the New 7's, because Ibanez incorrectly put in the original RG7-620 copy that it would ship with Blazes. There is no Blaze II, there's just Blazes and New 7s.
