Lenny will become famous soon enough
Stock pups in my UV? low output?

seams like the pups are kinda mid output, would putting a x2n 7 in the bridge and ToneZone7/Evo7 in the neck see a big differece?

The Blaze has more than enough output. Output has NOTHING to do with it. Absolutely nothing. The issue is how the pickup is voiced. The percieved power of the pickup is lower because it's so scooped sounding, and doesn't have the best attack and presence to it. But it still has tons of output. Even if you got a pickup with LOWER output than a Blaze, if it was voiced differently you would probably love it.

Yes raising the pickup height will increase the power, but again, that's not the issue I believe. If what you don't like about it is that its a bit muddy and not as crisp as you want, that's not output, you just need to try a different pickup. I don't recommend putting the Tone Zone or Evo in the neck. That wouldn't be a very good idea. The Blaze neck model is great. The Air Norton 7 or PAF7 are also excellent neck pickups for leads or clean.

For the bridge, believe it or not the Blaze Neck model works like a dream there. The Evo and Blaze Custom are also nice in the bridge, depending on your setup. The X2N-7 or Drop Sonic-7 may be good choices too. I'd avoid a Tone Zone in the bridge. The PAF7 I think is easily the best sounding DiMarzio bridge pickup for metal or otherwise, but I've only tried it in Mahogany not Basswood.

Personally I have a hunch that the best option for you, would be the Drop Sonic pickup. If that's anything close to the pickups in the Petrucci Music Man guitars, then you'd be in good shape. Just to reiterate, the Blaze's output really shouldn't be the problem, it's quite hot and should be more than enough to drive the front end of any decent amp.

blaze bridge is fairly medium output(380mV), the custom(410mV) is a bit higher output, and the neck is quite a bit lower output(280mV)... compare that to the x2n-7 which is 510mV, and anything seems low output the D-Sonic is 390mV, so not a huge step up from the blaze... and of course, all of them sound different from each other...

i'd still like to toy with an x2n-7 in the bridge spot and a d-sonic 7 in the neck spot, i think itd be a great combination...

Not sure if this will work, BUT, when i got my PWH someone had adjusted the pole pieces for the 4 bass strings so they were out of the pickup 9about 1mm or so) and for some reason i like the blaze in that, really cool sounding, maybe try that? Just adjust the pole pieces of the 4 bass strings so that they are about 1mm out of the pickup.

Otherwise I can vouch for the blaze custom being a good 'un to put in a UV, just has more mids.

Lately Ive really been digging the Blaze Neck I put in the bridge of that modded 7321 too - very even response and retaining definition at rediculous gain settings - even more so than the stock Blaze bridges in the UV's.
I've got a Drop Sonic 7 on order through work, so I'll have to try that too until I get my wife to bring me back a Lundgren from europe later.

Definitely - the X27 is about as high output as they come, and while I'm not sure how the Evo7 would fare as a neck PU, the TZ7 actually wasn't half bad in my old 2027.

That said, the cheapest way to boost your output considerably is simply to raise the pickups in their cavities - 2-3mm off the string when fretted at the 24th fret is considered an acceptable distance for keeping a medium-hot pickup close to the strings, and I'm guessing yours are quite a bit below that right now. As they come up, your tone will get a bit more compressed (both from the extra drive on the amp and the change in dynamic response of the pickup as the string gets closer within the magnetic field) and focused, and output will increase significantly.

Give it a shot before doing some pickup changes, as it's a 30-second adjustment that's completely reversable.

You could also get that variable-boost knob thing that EMG has.
