[project] RG7420 make over!!!

Well guys, you know I have a 2027 on its way. I plan on puting a Blaze Bridge and AN7 in it. Other then my UV777PBK and AJ307 I also have a RG7420 magenta guitar. I am gonna give it a make over.

Here is what is planned.

strip it down to the wood.
Get a really nice wood grained vineer and redo the surface. A nive curle maple or tiger wood....some beautiful (suggestions welcome)

after the vineer is done, gonna router the edge of the body and put in a binding. prolly wood of a different kind.

paint the sides and back... and and either sunburst the front or varnish it..then clear coat the body to a glass finish.

prolly put in an Evo 7 and Blaze custom (neck) to give this a guitar a diff. sound then the UV and the 2027.

I will do my best to take as many pick of the project as possible.

when it is done... should be pretty nice.

sunburst versus varnish...

i think if you paint the sides and back a dark color, then the sunburst would look awesome.

The sunburst finish will look great on that, What are you planning to use for stripping the body down?

Not too sure yet...but I will be ripping the body through a planer to make it thinner based on the thickness of the veneer. Any suggestiong on the stripping the rest of paint is much appreciated.

I've heard it's best to use paint stripper , because of the polyester finish . That really nasty shit that comes in can , I believe it's called 'Aircraft Stripper' . I'm not completely sure about this , so please wait for more opinions !! And believe me when I say it's nasty stuff . It'll remove paint , skin , or anything else you get it on !

I'm currently working on a Universe project. Let me tell you that the Ibanez factory finish is some serious stuff. No stripper I tried did anything at all. I ended up using a power sander, and a lot of elbow grease.

Thanks... a couple quick passes through the planer will get rid of the finish pretty quick

update.... got my bookmatched curly maple. Looks sweet. I have decided to get custom inlays on the fret board. Going with dice. A 3 for the third fret, 5 for the fifth, 2 6s for the 12th and so on. Might even incorporate some dice in the body..similar to the Eye on the UV777PBK..... but i will get 2 dice that equal 7....either a 1 and 6, 2 and 5, or 3 and 4.
