Reminds me of the Brownsville 7 string from Sam Ash.. which looked a bit cooler, had brushed chrome hardware.

So, now you finally sold the Carvin and the search for YOUR dream seven string begins!

What are you looking for? Are you more into rhythm work, alternate tunings, stability and that sort of thing? Or are you more the Floyd equipped, thinner neck, shreddy type of thing?

There's not nearly as many to choose from as there used to be, but there's still some sweet sevens to be had. If you are into the former that I listed, I might humbly recommend the Schecter Blackjack series sevens. As you probably know, I have the 007 Blackjack and it is quite lovely.

i'm more into Meshuggah - type stuff for my 7-string guitars. industrial stuff with machinegun beats.

Might I suggest the Stephen Carpenter 7-string from ESP for you then? Yeah, it sucks where they put the 2nd pickup, but if you can get past that this is a killer 7.

Despite the binding on the Beck (which is always cool as far as I'm concerned) that thing just looks like a piece of shit to my eye at first glance.

Well, what kind of guitars do they use? That may be a good place to start.

I haven't heard Meshuggah, so I don't know if my guitar would work for that type of thing, but I do know as far as I've tried it excels at all things heavy.

I think they're using custom one off Ibanez 8 strings, that other Ibanez endorsers can't get. There's pics in here somewhere.

Well, I guess either start looking for a decently priced Universe or get an RG7420 or RG7620 and pop some Dimarzio Blazes in there. Unless Meshuggah uses different pickups.

Ah, maybe we're overthinking this. What kind of neck do you like? Flat and fast, like an Ibanez Wizard? Something more substantial? Honestly, for metal and such I would probably recommend checking out the new Schecter Hellraiser series. Mahogany body, fixed bridge, and EMG's stock. Those things will knock down walls. Or the Blackjack series like mine if you prefer passive pickups. The Duncans in mine do heavy stuff exceptionally well.

Ibanez was king of the seven string world for a while, but now it seems that Schecter is the big dog. They have some freaking amazing sevens.
