Yeah, I wouldn't go THAT far, but it's definitely not worth it unless I do make some kind of profit.

Hah Speaking of your Jackson, if you haven't played a guitar with active EMGs before, here's a tip (other than the obvious "replace it with a DiMarzio" )....Unlike passive pickups, pickup height doesn't come into play much, in fact EMGs sound best when the pickup is as close as humanly possible to the strings, due to their weak magnets and reliance on an internal pre-amp for its tone.

Tough choice, but I chose the EBMM. Not because I'm an Ibanez freak (because I am), but for a different reason.

I agree that the UV is probably the easiest to replace and commands a fair value currently. The EBMM probably commands a higher resale though. However, I would say that from what I hear about the EBMMs, that odds are really really high that if you get another one someday, it will be as good as the one you have. That is not going to as sure of a bet with the Ibanez guitars. I've played a few "bad" UVs, and have heard and experienced more of the one off "lemons" with Ibanez over Ernie Ball. True it's much less likely with the ones you have, but still a chance, and I've yet to really hear of a bad Petrucci model. Basically the EBMM is the only guitar that I would say could certainly be replaced with an equivalently good overall guitar, and you will be the least likely to have to worry that the replacement will be as good as the one you had.

For what it's worth, my UV is the best playing guitar ever to me. I've played about 8 UV777BKs, of which 2 were dead ducks. At the same time, I've played 2 EBMM JP7s that were both equally great, but I wouldn't take them over MY UV. Maybe in addition to.... But I also wouldn't be surprised that if I played 6 more EBMMs, they'd ALL be as good.

This coming from an Ibanez guy

Great post there. Thanks for the insight. I don't know much about EBMM guitars, this JP7 I just aquired is the first one I've ever played. I had a UV777BK many years ago that I loved, and more recently a greendot UV7BK which also was amazing. But, it's really not even close how much better the JP7 sounds than the UV777BK. This is just probably because of the pickups (also I like direct-mount pickups over pickguard mounted). The tone on both are awesome, but the Blaze is almost too warm, the bottom end isn't quite as tight or crisp as I'd like. The JP7 pickups have the same qualities as the Blaze, but with more bite and a more pleasing tonal character. Beyond that, both have AMAZING necks and great feels. I prefer the looks of the UV, but I prefer the tone and the neck slightly (and i mean SLIGHTLY) above the UV. Plus the JP7 has piezos.

You make a good point, the JP7 is probably worth as much if not more, and also is a production model I can always get again. BUT!.... I dunno
