EQing, I need lesss mud

Alright, so being the lowgoer I am, I tuned my first 6 strings to BEADF#B
And my once B strign to F#
Giving me F#BEADF#B
But the low f is way too muddy.
What can I do to improve this?

What string gauges are you using? What scale length? I hate to be the one to point this out, but you can't just tune down forever. Low F# always sounds muddy to my ears unless you go to a superheavy string on an extra long scale.

Wolf Rose makes an enhancer preamp that tightens up low notes. Try turning the lows down and roll the low midrange even more down, then inch the high freq. up a tad. Also watch your gain, as in my experience, too much gain on a traditional guitar amp doesn't work too well with anything lower than A1. Which amp are you using?

I'm using a pedal through a bass amp. My lows and low mids are CRANKED, but so are my high's. I'll try turning the low-end down

I'm using 10-56 or somethign right now.
Should've left the bass strings on.

Jim Soloway is a jewel in the rough
You're pretty much playing bass at that point. It's going to be really tough to get any kind of acceptable articulation on a standard scale length guitar. Even at 27", it's a stretch, and a 56 must feel like it's just flapping in the breeze.

.056" is pretty tiny for a low F#. Try something more along the lines of a .070" or bigger. Which pedal? I never use much distortion on bass aside from Ampeg pedals and the distorted channel on the B5R.

I couldn't agree more with what Jim Soloway just said. Let us know how it goes, I'm sure a lot of us would like to hear about how this turns out.

Give an .080 a try. The scale length is a major contributor as Jim said.

80 is what most jazz players use for a low A on a 25" scale length.

I'll have to try a .80.

Would 12's or 13's be better for the other 6?
