Good 7-string without a trem?

I have an RG7620 and I love it, but the trem pisses me off sometimes. Pretty much every guitar I own has a locking trem, it can get kind of annoying. I want a nice 7 string without a trem. I generally use standard tuning most of the time, but I do use other tuning sometimes, never lower than a whole step. Musically, I like mostly prog/power stuff. Any suggestions? Nothing real expensive, under $1000 for sure.

Thanks!

I was thinking of a C7 Hellraiser actually. The ibanez would obviously, most likely work for me. It's always nice to have something different though. I don't have any guitars with active pickups, so that would be kinda cool. Only thing about the Hellraiser, isn't it extended scale? Would there be a problem tuning to standard? Too much tension or something?

It's not really extended much, it's only 26.5" so you'll have no problems tuning it to standard at all. The extra tension will just tighten up the low B. It's not like we're talking 30" Baritone scale here.

If I'm not mistaken, they're designed with standard tuning in mind.

Another thing to keep in mind is how nice you want to go. ESP Viper-7's also come with EMG's, but I'd reccomend the Hellraiser over the Viper. Washburn WG-7 comes in fixed or floyd, costs little money, and basic options. You might want to change the pickups if you go that route.

The Schecters play very nicely, 56 was flappy in A but that's to be expected.

I just snagged a Schecter Damien 7 and I love the thing. It's 26.5" scale and has EMG HZ's so I can swap the real thing in there when I get some $$ Strongly recommend that or an Ibanez 7621.

I've owned just about damned one of these guitars in the recent past and have settled on a used Carvin DC747. My advice: if you like everything about the 7620 except the trem, just get a 7621. You'll save a lot of money over what you'd pay for a Hellraiser or Carvin, and you'll still have everything you like about the 7620, plus higher quality fretwork than you'll find on any ESP LTD. The Schecters are very nice and great value for the money, but their necks are quite thick and feel very different than the Ibanez. A lot of folks find the Ibanez Wizard-7 necks too thin, but that's a matter of personal preference, obviously.

No, not yet.

Actually, I haven't yet decided whether I will. Most likely, but it is a pretty cool instrument and I need to figure out if the Carvin does all that I need it to. For just out and out shred, the Ibanez 762x sevens are pretty hard to beat.

Hmm. And you've got the Schecter, too? Aren't you over your limit?

Yes, I'm over my limit--especially if want the $$ to fund a studio upgrade. The Schecter's on the "to be sold" list. Just haven't gotten around to it, yet.
