I honestly think that whatever it is you get used to playing, you will change your playing style to suit. It's been 17 years since I've played a guitar with an unfinished neck, so they feel really foregin to me.

The only area that a painted neck is superior to a raw neck is in terms of stability. I have never had to adjust the truss rod on my Jacksons because they were in hot or cold weather... unlike some custom guitars with raw necks

Dick!

That neck is oiled now, thank you very much.

Although even an oiled neck will still shift slightly in the weather, at least in New England's extreme shifts, lol.

The H-307 neck (at least the one I had) is considerably thinner than a Schecter neck--I actually didn't think it was much thicker than an Ibanez Wizard7 neck and was kind of surprised at that. The fretwork on my H-307 was atrocious, but that's another story.

Actually, it feels better. But I've got about four coats on it, with the bulk of it removed with steel wool, and then buffed out. It looks and feels like any oiled neck you'd get from Fender, Jackson, Ibanez, etc. Which is what I was going for. Raw next just don't feel comfortable to me.

A little more hassle is worth a lot more playability, IMHO.

Yeah the fretwork of the LTDs from that time period sucked the big one, but once you get them fixed up they rip like none other. \m/

Even fixed up, I wasn't that thrilled with the H-307. It's fretboard had too round a radius for my liking, and the frets are too small. If it had 6100 frets and a 14-16" radius, I'd probably have kept it, since it was a decent-sounding guitar.
