they go for $900 or so a lot on jemsite, I'd be hesitant to go much above a grand.

No worries, tell me if you score the thing and don't like it- just watched "Fear and Loathing" last night (love that flick) and I'm wondering if a human adrenaline gland can really get you high- if so, I'd sell it to grab another UV without a second thought.

$900 would be a great price for one in perfect shape, cased, and quite reasonable for a good player. You'll probably have to go a little above that, but unless there's one of those intangible little "angels we have heard on high" moments when you pick up the thing and strum your first chord, you might be able to do better if you looked elsewhere. In the last few months there were a number of good UV's on sale on jemsite from guys I'd buy from with perfect confidence, so in retrospect considering how long I've lusted after a 777, it's amazing I held out as long as I did, and went for the PWH when I broke down.

Yeah, ain't it beautiful?

The UV7PWH (mine) was made from 90-93, I think, and from a player's perspective, the biggest difference is the neck joint- this one has the old-style joint, while the 777bk has the "all-access" neck joint. If you're used to nothing else, the old style joint is perfectly workable for playing up at the top of the neck- it's a little awkward, but manageable. The all access joint, however, just sorta melts under your hand- you have clear unimpeeded access up the neck all the way to the 24th fret low b. It's absurd- after first getting my 7620 I vowed never to buy a guitar without one (and you can see how well that worked, lol) I was so impressed.

Aside from that, it's just cosmetics- creme white with white pyramid inlays vs. black with abalone binding and a mirrored pickguard and a "light without heat" pyramid inlaid behind the bridge, and abalone pyramid inlays on the neck. Tonally, all else being equal these should be comparable (no more variation than what you'd expect to see within the same line), with the 777bk taking the edge for better upper access.

It's a sweet guitar, I think you'll like it.

-D

EDIT- there's a great photographic comparison of the different necks on jemsite that you ought to take a look at.
