I'd say around the time of Obsolete.

(Worst guitar tone ever, btw. )

Probably because it was muddy, undefined and fuzzy. It was just mush... unless that's what you are looking for in a tone.

Yeah, I'm getting the same kind of tone with the PODxt tones. Easily the best Dino Cazares tone for me.

PODxt Live.

I'm going to sell my MG100DFX and buy a rack based rig that I can run the PODxt through.

Hey, each to their own. Personally I think Dino's tone on Obsolete is crushing. It's a great album too. Modded to christ JCM800, wherever you may be.

IMO, It's about as crushing as custard.

Mushy:

Not mushy:

Obsolete was still an album of killer songwriting and I plan on doing a cover of Freedom or Fire.

I think you would also have to tune your 7 string to G standard. But I'm not 100% on that

and I loved Dark Bodies off of Digimortal

I am really into the tone on Obsolete....I thought it was absolutley punishing with a digital edge to it that was a litttle muddy at times, but overall it was tight when it needed to be, and really fluid and organic which suited the music.

P.S. Pod XT rules, and after owning it for a few months for my home rig, I am still barely scratching the surface for its capabilities, and highly considering starting to use it for me regular rig as well....

You have to have a power source running after the PODXT so that it can be heard. You can use a power amp or a tube amp.

Better answer this short and sweet.....It is a multi FX, and amp modelling unit....I suggest the XT live if your unfamiliar with the line 6 product, because IMO it is easier to learn.

Hook it up to an amp (run it through the front or through an FX loop) and read the manual and support.....there are dozens of threads about it, but ultimatley it is a godly affordable tool for tone tweakers....

I use mine at home directly through a cube 30 and it is great for practising, and as a home rig. PM me if you want further info, or do a search as you'll probably find more than you ever needed to know

Dino tuned to B until Obsolete which was all in A (if anyone else knows other wise please say) Digimortal was also A and the baritone tuned to G on Dark Bodies and Acres of Skin at the time of Digimortal's release Dino did a GW interview which confirms this.

Does anyone know what he used for Brujeria? I've heard it was G but it's such a loose overbassy almost hip-hop tone its hard to tell.

I know but what cabs was he using on Obsolete and SoaNM? If they weren't the same as the Mesa/Boogies he was using on Demanufacture then that would explain the difference in tone because I really like the tone from Demanufacture but not from the other two albums with the JCM800.
