Actually, if you wouldn't mind, I'd be curious to hear how the Recto pre and your new UV handles smooth, slightly low-gain lead tones... Nice score. I don't know what it is, but there's really something about the feel of those older UV's... I'm not going to say anything stupid like "My PWH has cured me of gAS" because really it hasn't, it's just I suddenly have very little desire to buy another basswood-bodied, trem equipped seven string because this one just looks and feels SO right to me. I hate to say it, but I'm kinda with you on that pickguard. It's so ugly, how COULD you take it off? ![]()

![]() I'm seriously itching to try some PAF7s or Blaze Neck pickups. Ever since putting that JB back in my 2027 (which is back out again ) I realized - I don't really LIKE uber-hot passive pickups. Those low-gain pickups just have something... |

The white pickguard does have it's charm, and I may keep it like that. I still think it would look nicer with its proper black pickguard though
![]() Drew: I can record some lead stuff w/ the UV on the "vintage" or "raw" channel if you want. It should also be noted that the clean tones from the Mesa Pre are absolutely amazing. It has "Clean", "Fat' (MK2 ish supposedly) and "Brit", and all of those have a great sound, and by changing the gain even a tiny bit it can give you a totally different character. |

Just wanted to add that I hate the white pickguard with all the green. It really needs the black one.

I Agree that the 'original' black w/green binding pickguard looks the best and I like how it looks on a beater PWH like Munky from Korn did to his PWH, it had a UV7BK pickguard on it, looked awesome, but a white pickguard on a black guitar with green pickups doesn't look all that great.

It has a fugly charm to it, but anyway, if it's a cool sounding and playing guitar then it doesn't really matter!
There's definately something special about the old UV's, their necks in aprticular. I've got two and have owned another 2, all UVBK's (and the one PWH that I have along with one BK) and the necks were fantastic on all of them. There was actually one neck that was stupidly good, and had a setup that was insanely low action. They are ace guitars, now go and get yourself a new pickguard, and you could do the Morbid Angel Trey thing of getting a green pickguard for it and a flourescent orange whammy bar... hey, it also means you can put in extra switches and gadgetry as it won't be the original scratchplate anyway! |

Yeah, I dig it all man. I've had like 20 7-strings now (including several Custom Shops), so I'm past the point of caring mostly about looks. I'm all about how it plays, and that's why I play Ibanez only now. I think the UV777BK, K7 and S7420FM I have look beautiful, I don't mind if I have one that's kind of worn looking.
That being said I will still change the pickguard. If I could get a green one that might not be a bad idea either. Good call J. |
