Question Is the guitar worth it to get the sustainer?

Fernandes Revolver 7 on E-bay

You know, I've always wanted a sustainer, and I've pretty much stopped buying six strings, so I wanted to know about the quality/playability of these things, as well as what a fair price for one of them is.

Seeing as I just won Scott's Sustainer off ebay, and paid that much for the sustainer itself, if the price of the guitar doesn't go too high, I'd go for it. The cracked jackplate and stuff is an easy 5 min fix. I too had always wanted one of those, so I just had to have it. As soon as it gets here, it's got a date with my UV as my next hot-rod project.
Get it man.

Sorry, but I got to ask this n00b question. I've heard of a sustainer, but what is it? I've even considered getting one of these guitars, but I didn't want to take any chances, considering I don't know even what a sustainer is!

I was watching that sustainer myself, but it just went too high for me (I have an Ebow). I never worry about trivial stuff like minor hardware problems. All of the electronics are usually the first thing to go. This would get everythig ripped out BUT the sustainer. If the guitar sucked, then the sustainer would go in something else and the guitar would go back on E-bay priced to move.

A sustainer sets up a magnetic field around the strings that constantly vibrate them (if you're not muting them with your hand). Infinite sustain.

I'd say go for it. I would if I had the dough now, even though it's not a lefty, just to get that goddamn sustainter!

I used to own one of these, very nice guitar. The cool thing is it's made from Alder so it had a really cool clear tone to it, very bitey, and the Sustanier is mucho fun, although sadly it can't do chords.

I may have to pick this up myself, I miss my old one.

I was pretty sure it was something like that. That's definitely something worth looking into. Thanks for the info.

Noodles, at this great D.C.-area SevenStringBeerFest that we are supposedly going to have in the near future, you can try a Revolver 7 out in person, since I can bring mine if you'd like.

The short version--it's no RG2027x, but it's not a bad little guitar. I'm actually thinking about selling mine, too, since Floyds ain't my thang anymore. Though my plans are in flux...as ever.

My main guitar back in 1999 or so used to be a japanese Fernandes Revolver Elite. It had the sustainer. It should be noted that there's two different versions of the sustainer out there. Some guitars have the version that just has normal sustain + harmonic (5th) sustain. There's some models that have both of these, along with a 3rd switch that mixes the harmonic mode and normal.... this is by far the coolest mode. If you listen to Type O Negative you hear it in almost every song.

I don't believe the Revolver Pro 7 has the third mode just FYI. The only models that have that as far as I remember is the Revolver Elite and Dragonfly Pro/Elite if I recall.

Still the sustainer on the Revolver Pro is cool anyways, and I'm eyeing this piece of myself. That being said, when I owned the Revolver Elite, I also bought a Revolver Pro, and that guitar sounded like absolute thin dogshit in comparison...so I'm worried about how the Rev Pro 7 would sound.

Worst comes to worst you can just take the sustainer out and put it in a nice guitar.
