Necky379 has a spectacular aura about
First 7, sc-607 or 1527?

hey guys, first post, first 7-string. i can't decide whether i want an ibanez 1527 or an ltd sc-607. i just bought a heritage h-150cm and the neck warped, so i'm using the 1000$ refund to buy a 7. if i got the nez i'd swap out the pickups for a duncan invader or distortion in the bridge position with a '59 in the neck. the sc-607 i'd leave stock. i'm not a fan of trems or bolt on necks, but at the same time i'm worried that the all maple neck-thru sc-607 will sound to bright. i was getting so much resonance with the heritage, so i don't know if maple is gonna cut it, but the added sustain would probably make up for it. the sc-607's are better looking guitars to me, i saw strapping young lad's "zen" video and instantly wanted one. i would rather buy a japanese made guitar(nez) rather than a korean one(sc-607). anyone own both?

From your post, it sounds like the SC-607 would suit you much better. I owned one for 2 years & it's still the most fantastic playing 7-string I've own. So, why did I sell it? Although it plays extremely well, don't expect tons of versatility in tone. The bridge/middle pup configuration really limits that. Personally, I love all-maple guitars. They really cut through the mix. Simply put, if you're looking for a straight up metal guitar, this is it. If you want more versatility, I would suggest an Ibanez or a Schecter. Since you mentioned Ibanez, I would check out the RG7321. It's an incredible versatile guitar that plays VERY well & it's also a fixed-bridge.

...and welcome to the forum!

thanks, you guys have a great forum here. my idea of "the perfect tone" would be in flames (i know they don't have 7's), or nevermore, specifically "the heart-collector", and i really like the sound of dino on "descent" from fear factory. can i expect something like that? i'm playing through a modded 5150 (oei plexi spec output transformer, mercury mags choke, bias mod) into a stock 412m. i don't use any effects, just straight in.

For that Nevermore sound, a Mahogany guitar with a JB/59 combo will be a big contributor to that tone on the Dead Heart record. I suggest perhaps the 007 BlackJack or C7 Blackjack, or if you can find one, a LTD M307.

+1 for the C7 Blackjack. Best pickups/value and its an ice mahogany/maple combo, and it feels like a neck-thru... light-weight too... very resonant... I love it.

Im an advocate for the SC607 myself. I finally got one recently after many years of wanting one

It's beautiful in so many ways. Neck thru, strings through body, EMG's.. you name it. It's just a gorgeous instrument and feels a hell of alot nicer than my ibanez (which is a great guitar in itself!)
