Hellraiser + Brutal amp?

so I need a heavy /nevermorish/Dream Theater type of sound but also one with a good lead ch.

I tried the hellraiser with a recto and the rythm ch stuff was nice, the emgs really give it a good bite, now there was no lead ch on the single recto so It was very dry and I did not like it for shready stuff.

So I thought maybe the powerball would do.

Screw all that. Just get a vintage Sears Silvertone & you'll be set for straight up brutality!

While others may disagree, I feel it is hard to get a good lead tone with EMGs. They're just to sterile, and Mesa's voicing doesn't help them much at all. I'd try a tube screamer in front to warm it up a bit, and a good reverb or delay to round things out.

If you want a Nevermore like sound, get a Peavey XXX or Ultra Plus amp. I agree with noodles though, EMG 707s arent the best choice.

My choice would be to get the OTHER guitar Jeff Loomis plays, which is the Schecter C7 Blackjack which comes with a Seymour Duncan JB7 that absolutely CRUSHES. I had one of those and ran it through my Ultra Plus and the tone would make Jeff himself envious

Either way, best of luck to ya laddy.

Yes, the Blackjack rules.

As for amps you have the choice of a Powerball which is my favorite amp, or you could go digital/tube and grab a PODXT and get a Tube Carvin Poweramp.

I can get great Powerball tones ut of my PODXT, one of the main reasons I got it.

go for randall combo,

it has super nice lead tone and works nice with 7-strings.

I personally think Randalls are, well... not good. You won't sound anything like Nevermore or really any top notch metal band with a Randall IMHO. They just sound too muffled and solid-state. Everyone I tried sounded as bad as a Crate.

[insert tube amp argument here]

That's just my opinion, please don't shoot me
