Dont have a 7 string yet, some help please

New here:

ok, so, i have never owned a 7 string in my life, and ive been doing some reasearch on thems, so here are a couple that have caught my eye. And i guess it would be nice if you guys could offer suggestions, or recommend other models ect.

ESP LTD SC-607 Stephen
- this one is really really really sexy looking. I also like the pickup configuration, it seems like it would be a really unique add to the old arsenal.

Schecter 007 Elite 7-String
- Also interesting looking, the single coil in the neck is a plus too, ive heard good things about schecters also

Schecter C7 Hellraiser
This one also is very asthetically pleasing, and ive also heard GREAT things about this instrument as well. But the 26" neck scale scares me. Wouldnt that make it more difficult to play? or is it not that noticible only in that it just sounds a bit fuller?

Jackson COW 7 (army graphic)
This one im torn about. On one hand, i think it looks very cool, and VERY memorable, but the lack of a neck pickup or trem (its gotta be one or ther other), scares me about versatility.

RG1527RB (or any RG)
this one i like because it seems like you can mod the HELL out of RG's these days, and it has 24 frets, a trem, and 2 pickups. I could really make one of these memorable looking.

Any suggestions comments?

Another houston area 7 stringer

I own both a schecter and an Ibanez 7 string. If you want the most versatility. I would say go with the 1527 or a used 7620. It will have the trem two pickup spaces and a normal scale. Which in my opinion is better for shredding.

However the schecters especially the hellraiser are real riff monsters. The longer scale can add stability to downtuning if that is what your into. The longscale tightens things up and really feel good to hardpicking rythem players.

My opinion would be to get a hellraiser and a 7620/1527.

The stephen carpenter model is nice but overpriced and you'd almost get just as good a guitar with a similar feel in the hellraiser IMO.

Nobody ever seems to have anything nice to say about the COW. Ive never handeled one personally though.

Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free-wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.

C-7 Hellraiser for sure!

Of course I am partial to Schecters but I think the quality and tone of the Hellraiser C-7s are awesome. EMGs are screamin. I just posted pics of mine in the gallery. As far as the neck...I got used to it very quickly. It is indeed a riff monster. It's really hard to put down and I think my scales and overall playing have improved since I got it.

They are really nice players, with amazingly fast necks (although I'd sand the paint off the neck if I owned one). Unfortunately, I think that $700 is too much to spend on a non-contoured bolt-on with one pickup. Especially when that one pickup is as tonally limiting as an EMG. Jackson nuts have a thing for one pickup guitars, though, and Jackson listens to all the old fans.

Even with that akward neck joint, I would put it in the same class as the other guitars, only if it had a neck pickup and a tone knob. Yeah, the neck feels that damn good, with huge frets and all that smooth ebony.

I'd have to say the 1527/7620 is the best all around guitar up there.

The Hellraiser is an awesome guitar with a great finish, but something about it just didn't mesh well with me. I don't think it's the extended scale because I can play ESP's baritones (27" vs 26.5") just fine, so that doesn't make sense. I have no idea why, but I just wasn't all too comfortable playing it. I just thought I'd say that so you don't go jumping on something and then not like it. I hope you find what guitar you're looking for.

Yeah its a bolt-on, but you get an ebony board which is usually only found on very expensive guitars. I think that makes the $700 price tag extremely fair. Plus its made in Japan, not Korea. I hear the people who make the Japanese Jacksons are very good. I'd vote for the Jackson or any Ibanez.

Well this is a FINE start for sure. These are all good 7's. So start scratching them off based on characteristics that you cant look past.

For example: I cant look past that neck joint on the Jackson...its offa the list. I thought once of trading my LTD MH-307 for Shannons LTD SC-607...but I want to have a Floyd in case I want to make myself laugh doing divebombs...no Floyd = offa the list. Which really kicks everyone offa the list but the Ibanez. I would find a RG7620 in Grey Nickel used, and start modding...I had one and even liked the pickups in it.

If you dont care about the Floyd at all....I'd be between the Hellraiser and the SC.

It's just that it's a bolt-on, and it only has one pickup. I could deal with one (which I have), or the other (I'd deal with the joint), but not both. At $550? Much more likely.

The Japanese do do good work. I love my Jackson Stars.
