New line of Ibanez 7s?

Hey guys, I havn't been apart of this forum for to long, but have been playing guitar for about 12 years now, all on 6 strings. I'm ready to make the change to 7 and have been reading and researching alot on here. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the S7320 or the Apex 2. The only reason the apex is being considered is due to the hardtail string-thru body.Nothing against trems, 2 of my jacksons have them and i think they're great. I just love the sustain and tone of a hardtail string-thru. Either of which will be fitted with an Air Norton 7 in the neck and a SD JB 7 in the bridge.

I'm ready to pick one of these guitars within the month. My question for everyone is, when will the new line of Ibanez 7s be released? It already being the first week of December, if the release is within the first month of the new year, I may just wait for the new line up and see what my options are then.

70Seven will become famous soon enough
We don't even know if there will be some new 7's from Ibanez. If some new ones are coming at NAMM 2009, they will be announced in January and usually only available for sale in like April or sometimes even not until June. So I'd say go with the Apex.

Cheers.

We can only hope that the success of the S7320 will spawn more 7-string S models. I've gotten a lot of responses about mine, and I think quite a few people on this forum have one, or want one... not bad for only a single model. It seems to be quite a hit.

I'd trade up for a nice Prestige one with a maple top (or a nice wine-red translucent mahogany finish or such). Even better if they make one with 24 frets too.

But I'm happy with my S7320 as it is.

Have you used a SD JB-7?

The 6 string JB is perhaps my all-time favorite pickup... but the 7-string version is muddy, undefined, and woolly. You'd be better off with a Custom-7, a D-Sonic 7, or a Wolfetone re-wound JB7 (which is where you send the pickup off to Wolfetone pickups, pay $50, and have him re-wind it to original '80s JB specs.)

Like they say, NAMM stands for "Not Available, Maybe in May"

To the original poster, right now everything is speculation, and consider that some of the gear shown at the NAMM show might not even make it to the States.

When has this ever happened? The NAMM show is specifically targeted at North America, and I don't remember anything ever being shown there that was exclusive to Canada or Mexico

Unless you're talking about Ibanez's tendency to have non-production one-offs on display like artist LACS instruments?

So I could really be looking at 6 months from now for a new line up, and even then, no guarentees that there will be anything new. Thanks for the input, now to make the decision between the apex 2 and the S7320.

Temjinstrife, I havn't had the chance to play the SD JB-7, I am merely going by what I've heard and read about it. So you are saying that by sending it off to Wolfetone I can have the tone that I am acustom to from a JB 6 string version but in a 7 string?

I'd say go for the s7320. I had one and instantly fell in love with it. But then again, I've never have, or will, own an apex. Not my cup of tea.

An S7 with 24 frets and a hardtail would be so awesome. I'd buy one right away.

Between the two, I'd probably go for the S7320, mainly because of the trem, and tone knob. Though if you're not all about the trem, then the Apex is a fine guitar. I recommend trying to play both. I've heard some questionable things about the QC on the S7320.

Well it depends on how much Ibanez tells thier dealers. If they are realeasing limited edition most the dealers know long before Namm and you can already have them preordered. (loads of guys did that for the rg20th including me)

Sometimes Ibanez doesn't tell them anything though. I know one guy who works for Hoshino USA said that the main focus is on the Japanese Made line. If thats the case the chance for a new 7 is a lot higher than if they were focusing on the korean/indo stuff

I've seen plenty of stuff displayed at NAMM over the years with little signs saying Japan or European exclusive model - not available in the USA. NAMM is not only a venue for companies to show off their new lines, it's about showing off, period. Tama has shown Japan-only kits at NAMM, ESP has shown Japan-only signature models at NAMM, you name it, every company has done it. Roland regularly displays a line of arranger keyboards geared towards Arabian and Northern African music styles at NAMM that have never been available outside of the Middle East and Europe.

Although the S7320 is one of the best guitars I've played, beware of the cheap materials on the ZR bridge.
