Does anyone know about the Kramer Striker 7-string?
someone on the harmony-central boards has one that i'm possibly interested in buying.....i'm looking for a decent fixed-bridge 7 in the $200 range, to serve as an alternate/backup for my RG7620 (like for different tunings, or on the off-chance i break a string, etc.)
Between the Kramer and a Washburn WG587, what would you choose, assuming each is stock, and why? or if you know where i can get something else better in the relative near future, point me in that direction. thanx |

I'm not sure. Do you know when each was made? I have a WG587 w/ floyd, and I'm quite happy with it. However, I have heard rumors that the quality of these guitars has changed significantly. I've not tried a new WG587.
Same thing goes for Kramer, although, I think they were back up to snuff by the time the Striker 7 was available. I hope someone else will describe the Kramer for you. The Washburn I have has a coil tap and a middle pickup. I would rather keep the coil tap and lose the middle pickup, because I generally play right where the pickup is, and my pick occasionally scrapes on the cover. The fretwork is very good, with no point edges or wacky buzzing. The neck is a tad thicker than an Ibanez, but has a smooth feel as if it was carefully sanded with very fine grit. I have only needed seasonal adjustments, as the neck moves less than my RG (I have an old one without reinforcing strip). The tuners and hardware are as good as it gets for the money, my only issue being a little rust on the pole pieces. The jack holds cables tight, and I don't have the problem of the cable coming loose, like I sometimes do with my RG (even though I always go over my strap button). The strap buttons are large, and the neck joint is quite manageable. Again, there is a tiny bit of corrosion forming on the bolts for the neck. Mind you, I've played my Washburn a lot and had it for a while now. My Ibanez was pretty much the only guitar I played for about three years, and the hardware has held up better, but the neck on my Ibanez has had more issues. The six string Kramers I have played have ranged vastly in quality from decent to horrible, and I haven't had a chance to play the Striker 7, so I will stop here. |

i used to have one. i thought it was a pretty cool guitar. mine had a floyd though. my only advice is to change the pickups. i put evo-7's in the one i had, and it just screamed. as far as preference, i liked the neck better than the washburn. plus reverse headstock... what's not to love? (now if anyone know's where to get one, let me know would ya?)

Yeah, I had a fixed-bridge Striker 7. Imagine taking an Ibanez S-series and making the dimensions slightly fatter in all directions. It was a killer axe for $249. Just let me know what you want to know. I can't make any comparisons to the WG587 because I haven't tried one....yet.

i want to know how the neck compares to my 7620, how bad (or good) the stock pickups really are.....basic stuff like that. the only other questions i can think of are specifics to the particular guitar in question, and i'm already in contact with the guy selling it.

I had a six string Striker when I was like 13. It was a total piece of shit.
