High A String

Well, since I couldn't ask this question on the other thread, I had to make a new thread.

Where can I find .007 or really small gauges? All of the gauges go down to .008 on Juststrings.com. I'm not really sure if high A would be better with a .007 or a .008 though...

Hmm, I know GHS makes either a .007" or .0075" or both. From what I hear, the thickness gets hard to control at that point, though, so .007" and .0075" might be about the same.

I had a friend who played with a .007 or .008 and he ended up cutting his finger on the string. Scared me from ever going near those

I would check out one on an 8-string though.

I heard that the guys from Judas Priest were using seven-gauge high Es at one point...
Apparently D'Addario make a 0.007 as well, but I've never seen one anywhere in the shops or on the web.

Still thinking of whether to get a .007 or a .008.

I mean, .008 is only .001 smaller than my high E string, so I don't think it would even be possible to tune it up to A.

TBH, I've seen .007's on a few websites, but they are usually in Europe or out of stock.

Dude, people use gauges like .052 for their E-string on a 7-string, despite the fact E is meant to be .042. I'm sure you can get away with tuning an .008 to A.

Well, the tension would probably be relatively high.

I use an .008 for my high G. It doesn't seem too tight. For an A it might be a little taught for my taste. You really need like a compound scale to go high A without some complication though.

EDIT: Did you check out GHS? They aren't far from where I live.

EDIT EDIT: Nope, they don't have them anymore. Hmm.
