He said thats the way he got to do it on a 25.5" scale guitar. He also said he used 7 guage as the high A. Like i said, he seemed a bit crazy, but who knows?
I dunno about that guy...
The reverse headstock might help a little bit (I doubt it's a lot, if at all), but after you clamp it with the locking nut, I fail to see how it would make any difference in tension. Also, putting trem springs on either side of the bridge makes no difference whatsoever - the bridge doesn't tilt sideways, so overall tension will be the same for the strings regardles on the spring setup.

I'm thinking fanned frets would work. But the point of this thread was to find out if there was a way to get the high A without fanned frets.

So, I'll go ahead and blame this on the internet for having a lack of being able to express the inflection of my voice. I wasn't arguing, and on another note, I've never flipped out about the guitar in another thread.

And another thing, you quoted me out of context, those two comments were backed up by supporting comments and reasoning, you cut them out. Shannon, I respect you as a person and a musician, but you're the one who just went out all of the way to say that, was THAT such a big deal?
Yes, the lack of inflection on the net factors in. As far as the "ultimate axe" and "out of context" comments, I was paraphrasing. Sorry if they weren't detailed enough. If you're cool, I'm cool. In short, I wanted to squash this from becoming another "Why's everyone picking on the AX?" debate when this is suppose to be about High A strings. If you search through the archive, you'll come across the AX debates I'm referring to.

I'll leave this alone (to keep the thread intact). If you still wanna go back and forth with me, please PM me.

Anyway...YAY FOR HIGH A STRINGS!

I'm cool, I never intended to make another AX debate, I was leaving it at that.

Anyway, as far as the guy i was talking about... He told me it was a floyd rose type trem on there. He had most of the tension applied towards the bass side and it had a reverse headstock.. He told me it was a 25.5" Scale as well.

Edit:I just thought of something. I wonder if the High D string on a Chapman stick would function as a high A on a regular guitar? (thats tuned to the D on the 3rd fret on our high b string.. but on a 34" scale instrument..) Might work..
A high A should be 3/4 the length of a high D, and 25.5" is 3/4 of 34", so it's perfect, if you ask me.

Forums can be funny

I mentioned I have a very successful high A4 (440hz) string on this forum and only one guy was interested. My A4 string will tune to A4 on a 26-24" scale guitar. No need for fanned frets.I have an .005 and an .003 that are stronger than most .007's.(except for James Bond).
Al Caldwell tunes my .007 strings to E flat 4 on his 34" scale 11-string bass, and I hear he likes them.I also have an .006 that is very cool.

Send me a pm with your mailing address if you are interested in my high A string.

P.S. since this string tunes to A4 without fanned frets, imagine how high it will tune up with a shorter scale! I use it for either an Ab4 or G4 at 32" on the Adler 12-string.

Damn, what's it made out of, titanium?

(Yes, I know it's non-magnetic) Must be a much stronger alloy that is usually used...

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.
