I used to break .54s on a regular basis . . .
I have no idea why I stopped. But then, I have no idea why I started . . .
Oh! What's great, snapping the core of a .54 (tuned to B on a 6) and listening to the thunder through the bass-heavy distortion that I used back then . . .

I have emotional issues. Don't hug me, I bite.

P.S. - Now I use normal guages and standard tuning on a 7. I haven't broken any strings in a year or more . . .

does he use a pick or something? maybe he has heat vision and stares at the strings too much.

He uses his fingers, but he hits harder than anyone I've ever seen. Literally.

The last two bassists I've recorded both play harder than RonK - both with fingers. One was a really good bassist who has excellent, though heavy handed, technique, the other just flailed at the strings. Neither broke a string while I was recording them, but I can't imagine how many strings they would go through live.
