You mean this one?-
http://cgi.ebay.com/7-String-Conklin...QQcmdZViewItem If so, not bad, I'd rather get a Carvin 7 though. I just don't care for the body shape too much on those Conklins. |

Not too bad at all. Looks pretty sharp, and not too expensive. *Deemed true*

I just picked up one the Conklin GTG7T ( same guitar w/ trem ) It's stripped as I may have mentioned in an earlier thread. If the hardtail is anything like the one I have I bet if f'n rocks. The problem I've run into is that I can't seem to find any 7 string sets of Sperzels,,,, I can buy 2 sets of 3x3 but shit who wants to do that. The Wilkinson trem is hard to find as well. Any tips or inside tracks on that would be greatly appreciated.

at 355 USD it looks like a steal... or is it worth less being a "Groove Tools by Conklin" instead of an out and out "Conklin"?

The guy has no feedback, so it's not surprising that the price isn't rising all that quickly.

The reviews on these vary so widely, it's tough to say how good a guitar it will be. They do sell between 3 and 4 though, so if you got it and didn't like it you could toss it back in the pool.

Well,, here's my 2 cents worth. I recently acquired a Groove tools by Conklin GTG-7T at my work. It came in stripped, with light body damage, and a very slight heal crack. This guitar is quality, the attention to detail is nice. In my search for parts, I actually got to talk to Bill Conklin in regards to this line of guitars. He stated " Groove tools are being made on site at the Cort guitar facility in Korea. However Cort is not making the guitar, they have a staff of Conklin trained craftsmen making these guitars". It apparently was a venture to try to satisfy a niche in the market for a cheaper guitar. I can attest to the quality of these guitars and the bass's as well,,,, I mean if the "groove tools" line is Cheap,,,then I don't want to play an Actual Conklin USA because I would have to sell every damn Ibanez and bike that own just to have a few of these things.
I was also able to gather that the "groove tools" line is being phased out completely. It seems that the line wasn't doing well,,,, it seems more people were asking the same questions,,, "are they any good?" I guess if you look at the Conklin site and drool over the bizzare guitar and bass galleries and see what they are capable of,, you ( or at least I do ) tend to dream of what would be your personal Conklin. Then you realize you can't afford one and then you see the simple 7 string Groove tool,,, and it is sort ugly. That's what thought as well,,,until I actually had one in my hand. I'm pretty excited about getting it finished. These guitars are worth 500 to 600 easily, but demand sets market value. So in closing,,, ( pardon me if I have all ready rambled to long or have repeated myself on this matter ). Bill told me that the Groove tools line will be gone by next year if not sooner. Apparently people are willing to pay more for the American made series. So they have now started another line where all the guitars will be hand made in the U.S. This line will be a standardized series sort of like the Jems/Universes. It will be called "new century series". They start at around 2300 or so. It's kind of cool,,that they brought it back to the U.S. Kind of a bummer that they are still so high. However, once I get this GTG7 done and have some time to spend with it,,, I will do a review on it. If it's as cool as I think it's going to be,,,then I may be on a mission to snag as many as I can. I have no idea if these will ever become collectible or not. But if they play and sound great,,that's all that really matters, and makes the money well worth it. ~A |
