Now I know why they say basswood is soft...

Well I intalled straploks in my Agile not too long ago, and the bottom on was doing fine but the one on the upper horn kept getting loose so i'd retighten it. But I took it out and it looks like the weight of the guitar pulled the strap pin screw through some of the wood to the side and effectively widened the hole! So now I don't know what to do, my friend recommended getting balsa wood filler or whatever and use that, but have any of you guys had to repair a guitar where the hole for the strap screw is and what would you recommend to use? Is it just as simple as filling the hole back up and putting the screw back in once everything dries?

Fuck it, you only live once!

Two methods:

1.) Use Krazy Glue and sawdust. Fill the hole, and drive the screw in while it's still wet.

2.) Get a dowel roughly the size of the hole. Use carpenter's glue & some sawdust for filler, if needed, to fill the hole. Cut the dowel off flush, glue it in, and let it dry for 24 hours. Re-drill a pilot hole SMALLER that the screw, and re-install. I'd be surprised if it happened again. (This is the preferred method, but much more work.

fathead is a jewel in the rough
I had this happen when I put straplocks on my Charvel many years ago. I put a few toothpick slivers down the whole and put the screw back in. It has held up fine for me. If it's going to see alot of abuse then one of the above mentioned glue applications may be a better idea.

Get some Titebond and some toothpicks (the flat kind). Coat the toothpicks well with the glue and use several of them them to line the inside of the widened hole. You can either let them dry and trim them off, or you can trim them flush while the glue is still wet and re-insert the strap button screw while the glue dries.

006 is on a distinguished road
+1 for the toothpicks.

I have an S470 with a basswood body, and the horn screw would ALWAYS come out. This was only after I had installed DiMarzio Strap-Loks when I first got it like I have on all of my guitars. I took some toothpicks, stuck them in the hole, broke them off to be flush with the hole's opening, and then put some good wood glue in there, and screwed the Strap-Lok back in. Has been holding up for about 4 years now without a hitch.

Same thing's happened to nearly every available screwhole on my UV. So far, it's been a perfect fix.

Not to get off topic, but are you sure? I'm pretty sure every S-series guitar has been made of mahogany.

Funny story, Back in 1999, when I had my RG 7620 for about a year, I had it equipped with a DiMarzio clip-lock strap and I went to jump up while we were playing on stage and as soon as I landed, the strap screw ripped right out of the body (upper horn) in the middle of the song and my guitar dropped to the floor fast but I saved it and ended up playing the rest of the show like that -it sucked.

I later looked at the damage, it was bad, gouged and everything. I put the old strap buttons back in and I had to use epoxy to keep it in there. I have never looked into buying any more DiMarzio clip-lock straps after that. That was my bad experience with them.

Besides, the strap buttons Ibanez puts on their MIJ 7s are pretty cool looking.
