Just scored a 7420...Lots of questions!!

Hey guys, I just scored a sweet RG7420 off a local guy from Craigslist. Plays and feels great! Awesome 7 string. But I just had a few questions about it, there isn't much info available about them seeing as how they're discontinued..

First of all, can anyone identify that color? I still can't tell if its like a dark forest green or the Cosmic Black color... Not too important, because I love the color, I'm just wondering

Second, I've heard a lot of people saying that the tremolo on this one isn't too nice, and that you can replace it with an Original floyd without any routing or anything, correct? I haven't used the whammy enough to tell if its like horrible and/or worth replacing, but to get even a used floyd set would be at least 100 bucks maybe 150 depending on what kind of deal I can get. I don't really mind so I just was looking for another opinion.

And lastly, the pickups sorta suck. I mean I knew I was gonna replace them anyway, so the crap tone is expected, but which do I get? I play with EMGs in my 6er, I was looking into either the EMG707s/81-7/etc or putting in the Blackouts. Are the Blackouts any cheaper? Because I was steering more towards them, I think they might be the better option.

So just let me know with whatever opinion/answers you guys can provide! Thanks a bunch and when I get it all set up (If I mod anything at all) I'll get an epic picstory up here, maybe some sound samples of some Unearth/Loomis shredding

I find my EMG's to be a kind of stale, i would go for the blackouts because supposivly they solve all your emg's issues, i havn't tried blackouts though, so i don't know, but alot of guys here recommend blackouts over emg and they're not usually wrong so i'd go with blackouts.

EDIT: and regards to the trem, i heard it was actually a decent trem system.

Hmm, alright thanks for the info! Yea I was thinking more towards blackouts anyway. I would need the Phase1 pickup set right? the one shaped more like normal passive pickups, the Phase 2 are shaped like the 707s. Correct?

the lotrs isnt too bad, but its nothing of lo pro, edge and edge pro standards.
if you ever swap it, it'd put in a lo pro, or edge pro 7.

pickups, i dont mind emg's tbh. nice pickups if you want them to do one thing.
syre, theyre not too bad at others, but pickups like dimarzio will be far more versatile.

I could always go with a d sonic/air norton combo..
Besides chunky heavy metal tones I listen to that use EMGs, I listen to petrucci and DT and adore that tone as well. Actually installing passives might be cheaper and less work than actives. But idk.

How would the loTRS compare to a licensed/original floyd??

its basically like a cheaper lo pro edge..its not too bad but wears out soon and the parts break.
the metal isnt as high quality.

and the DS/AN combo is a great one!
but also look at the Evo7, i use one and its incredible.
prefer it to my 6 string dsonic.

I've just always played actives. Cause I love a super heavy high gain rythym sound without all the feedback and noise. My emgs usually do the trick but idk how the d-sonic would compare. But the passives would be cheaper...

So would a pickup change plus an OFR replacement bridge be a good idea

You'll also have to replace the electronics if you go the active route, there are plenty of passive pickups out there which can do the chug without so much noise, but the best examples cost a quite a bit, more than EMG/Blackouts.
