Universe body swirled. A true lizard...

Hi Guys (and the few ladies),

I have been wanting a lizard swirl ever since i saw those beautifull DNA's. Even before i saw a bit of lizard with GMC's and even a bit on one of Steve's prototype UVMC.
The lizard swirl is typically Darren's style and extremely difficult to do.

The smartest thing to do is to contact Darren from ATD and ask for a lizard swirl on a 7 string body, but we all know Darren is very difficult to reach and i've been told from posts on jemsite that he no longer swirls guitars.

That leaves other swirlers. I contacted a dozen of them and some of them could do a little lizard, but not enough to control the swirl or make it beautifull enough that i wanted it.

Then a great man wrote me an e-mail and i sended a UV alder body to him. I won't reveal his name here, but all will be clear soon.

I received pictures of the swirl just a few days ago and it just blew my mind. Such great detail and EXACTLY as i wanted it. Just bloody amazing.

Wow... that's a really unique swirl. I don't think i've ever seen one with such huge areas of flat colour. It's almost like a lava lamp!

Really cool swirl man! Although I'd think it'd look better if the back was on the front, but it doesn't take away from the fact that that is one of the sickest swirls I've seen in a very long time.

I think I fail to see the point. What is a "lizard" swirl and why is harder? Becasue the pieces of flat color are bigger? It doesn't look like a swirl to me, just a sparkley black body with yellow and orange paint splatted over it. The back looks nice though.

Lizard refers to a lizard skin. Darren, the original swirler who did all the cool Ibanez UVMC's, GMC, PMC and DNA's applied this technique only in a few of his swirls.
Al lot of swirlers have tried to emulate this technique, but with little succes.

Swirling is actually marbling. An ancient japanese technique a few thousands years old. The basic is simple. Try to float paint in a huge bucket of water and dip your guitar (or other objects) in there.
To master this technique takes years of practice and talent.
The lizard technique comes from stormont marbling. One of the most difficult form of marbling there is.

Cheers mate.

The black areas are textured in a way that's very difficult to achieve. Those aren't "sparkles"... they're little micro-swirls of paint.

I just edited two more pictures in the post. That way the flow of the swirl can be seen better.

Thanks for all the great comments!
