Recommendations Please :: 7 String Guitars

Hello,

I haven't made many threads here on the forums, but I have introduced myself in a previous thread. In that post, I noted that I wanted to get a Schecter Damien 7 as my very first seven string guitar.

I'm not too confident, however, that this would be a smart decision. So, I thought that I was enlist the help of those here to guide me into the right direction.

I'm a HUGE Iced Earth fan (I know they don't use sevens) and also of bands like Alter Bridge (big Tremonti fan). But, I'm also very big fans of bands like Nevermore (Loomis) and also of Chris Broderick's work.

With those bands that I like, I tend to play those types of music and I was wondering if a Schecter Damien 7 would "do me justice" when it comes to what I like to play. If you don't think so, please feel free to recommend a different make/model and I'll definatly take it into consideration!

Thanks.

Shane

That guitar will handle rock and metal music easily. The only thing you really need to ask yourself is whether or not you like the feel, playability and features of that guitar.

When it comes to a first 7, you have to take in your personal tastes in guitars. In one sense, the things you love in a 6 is what you ought to look for in a 7. Like thin necks? Get an Ibanez 7620 or 1527, or if you can't score the ~$500, then perhaps a 7321 or 7420. Also to trem or not to trem is an important factor. If you like thick necks, schecters are your area, hellraiser, loomis, there aren't many horrible schecters I have played. Keep an eye out for avenger 7's, I saw one for 400 used, and it was pretty good.

We need more info on you likes and dislikes in guitars. Jeff plays on monster necks, while Chris plays on skinny necks.

Well, I'm not too biased on what type of neck that I prefer because I've have VERY limited experiance with anything different than what Epiphone V's have.

I'm not very picky when it comes to the weight of a guitar, but I do like to have my action as low as possible so I don't have to strain my hand/wrist muscles to play. I'm not really looking for anything that has a trem bar set up on it.

:O ??? Really? I know that Ibanez guitars have skinny necks but the Schecter C7 Loomis I tried (and going to own soon) didn't have a "monster neck" .
You gotta look at this: (warning: Hellish buzz at 5:00) It's not me i just picked it up from youtube

[/otflaming]

And yeah. We need more information. Like the price range for instance. If you like fixed tails and you like nevermore then why not pick up a Blackjack, Damien, Omen, Hellraiser and Loomis 7. They've got plenty. Then there's few on Ibanez side but they have crappy PUs (Ibanez's own. Yeah so does many of the Schecters too. Blackjack ATX ftw!) . The 7321 has a very thin neck and it plays good. I would swap the pick ups right away. Also there are some ESP LTD Stephen Carpenter guitars at the pricerange of an Damien. And I think there are some Jacksons too?

^ This is comingfrom an Ibby guy, and the necks, while I was exaggerating, are quite large in comparison atleast when I played them. I haven't played YOUR loomis, only a friends. Not knocking thelarger neck, but they are not wizards. And he does talk about how the neck is thicker in that vid...

Go to your nearest guitar store and see what they have. If they have no 7's burn the place.

Any schecter will be good I'd say.

try out a schecter hellraiser, neck-thru 24 frets, emgs, string-through, and some sparkly/shiny binding whats not to love, I'm trying to find one of these for me now

i have an avenger now and its a really reliable 7 as well, but to my understanding they are hard to find,

and you also can't go wrong with an ibanez 7321, they are relatively cheap and play pretty damn good for the price.

One of my students bought the Schecter Damien and I gotta tell you, it is impressive! Plays and sounds amazing, and it is HEAVILY underpriced! Go for it man, for that money, you cannot do better.

Hellraisers aren't neck thru man, they're set thru. Although when you're playing it, you can't tell the difference.

That's the link for Mike, my student who uses the Damien. Message him and he'll tell you all about it from the horses mouth. Also, all the tunes in his myspace page were all recorded on his Damien.
