UK guitar insurance

what are we looking at, for this?

given that i'm set to receive this roter custom imminently, i've suddenly become super-aware of how protective i'm going to be over it, especially given i'm gigging with it in just over a month from now.

is household insurance better? can you insure them individually? my full list stands at:

- gibson les paul studio
- ibanez RG7620
- squire 5 string bass (hardly worth insuring)
- [soon] roter custom 7

but then lozek has some choice instruments also, so is it worth household in that respect? will that only cover damage sustained when on the premises?

heffergm is just really niceheffergm is just really nice
I haven't a clue how things differ in the UK, but in the States, if I had a high dollar setup that primarily resided at my house, I'd call my homeowner's insurance carrier and have them added explicitly to the policy. I don't believe that would cover damage off the property.

Best bet is to call your insurance co. and talk to them about it. If they can't cover you under the homeowner's policy, they'll likely be quite happy to sell you another policy specifically for the gear.

elrrek has a spectacular aura about
As far as I am aware UK household insurance will cover instruments for damage in the house only.

It will not cover:

* damage/loss/theft of instruments outside of the home (i.e. beyond your front door or garden)
* damage/loss/theft of instruments in/from a motor vehicle
* damage/loss/theft of instruments in/from a rehearsal studio
* damage/loss/theft of instruments while performing
* damage/loss/theft of instruments in/from a venue

Basically, unless you drop it in your house or someone steals it from your house, and assuming you had it listed as an item of particular note if it is worth more than your laptop, your UK home insurance is worth hee-haw-bugger-all when it comes to your prized Roter custom. There are a number of places that will insure your instruments through specific instrument insurance policies but when you compare them to the price of home contents insurance you really are wondering if you are being robbed
