Can't play 6ers anymore

Went into my buddies guitar shop today just to kill time. He put together a Behringer PA system and wanted help setting the parameters on the mixer. So I beat around on a drum kit (I felt like a spaz as I have zero skill and he is a professional drummer). So he makes several adjustments and tells me to grab a guitar (I play guitar). He doesn't carry 7s. I know. So he grabs an ESP EC1000 and hands it to me. I tried with all my might, but could'nt play to save my ass. Talk about sad. The neck was so skinny! I couldn't believe it. I did better on the drums. Needed to tell someone.

If its been awhile, grab a 6er and see what ya got.

The PA is all Behringer and kicks ass!

I am not that bad, but I am starting to feel awkward with 6ers. I always feel useless on 24.75" guitars. Its just so different from what I am used to, my hands get all confused.

I went from playing 7 strings at a 26.5" scale to 6 strings and a 24.75" scale for the band I'm in. It's a lot different, I had to change my style completely for it to work. Not to say one or the other is better, but they facilitate completely different styles of music.

I'm hoping the singer will agree to sing on some 7 string songs, at this point he flat out refuses for some reason...

That's mmm... weird?

I mean, i feel really more at home on a 7-strings neck than a 6-strings neck. I have long hands. Also, a sixer now feels more like a toy each time i grab one but i still play both... Now, not beeing able to play the sixer because you're used to 7?!? Never.

No kidding, I was lost. I finaly got it, but I really had to think about what I was doing.

I had something similar happen to me but my 7 neck is really thin so not quite as much as you describe. but now i fear that the opposite will happen as I haven't picked up my 7 seven in a long time. Just play 6s b/c around here not many people have 7s and i got tired of looking for a band that did.

Yeah well, at first yes. My fretting hand keeps going overboard. You need to re-adapt a bit, but it's not like you "can't play" a sixer anymore.

I'm the same way. I can't play 6's at all anymore. The necks, like you said, feel too skinny. The string spacing and shit throws me way off. I'm really bad with that kind of thing though. Like if, I play something other than my main guitar I have a really hard fucking time
