Actually on a Carvin you might be gaining resale value if you do a clean job. Most people won't buy a Carvin because they refuse to route for pickups... if you've already done the job for them it might actually entice the buyers. I know that my 727 looks like it was routed professionally.... because it was. Thanks again Mike!

Carvin would definitely be the exception as far as routing goes.

MMhmm, normally i wouldnt, but if its a situation like a carvin (only company i can think of atm) where the pickup mounting is so proprietary that it takes alot of work to put anything else in, its actually a plus id think, as matt said. It doesnt put me off of carvin much cause i know that i could fit it well myself, but for alot of people, the idea of takign a router or dremel to the guitar or pickup as your only means of installing an aftermarket pickup is a big turnoff. If i were a random dude, id rather have the guitar professionally adjusted to work with dimarzios etc

And like you said, the resale value on carvins isnt worth rhinoceros asscrack, so yeah

dude, that is just insane .

if you have a pickup that can be easily modified like a Dimarzio, which when done right requires zero (except for drilling a new screw hole in the cavity on the low B side) modification to the guitar, why would you opt to route the guitar?

your average Dimarzio is around $60 - $70. honestly, what are you gonna get for a used Dimarzio even unaltered, $45 tops?

let's see, modify a cheap pickup, or remove wood from a guitar ...

EDIT:

hey! i found a pic of an ibznorange pickup install!!

For the most part, I agree. I had to remove a couple of mm on the base plate on the Dimarzio's I installed in my old RG7321 as the routes were a bit off. No one I sodl those pickups to after complained.

However, if I had a Carvin, I'd probably route the guitar so I could try lots of pickups in it.
