Ok, let's try this... Buying another Carvin...

So I'm going to buy another DC727 when I offload some other baggage.

The problem is, I can't for the life of me decide what it's going to look like. All I know for sure is:

- hardtail
- birdseye maple board with abalone dots
- all mahogany

With those 3 criteria in mind, what finish options would you go with, and if you've seen what you've got in mind, post pics.

Ooooh, like a trans green or blue, nice and dark over the mahogany, to contrast the maple board.

Reverse Headstocks or Bust

nice choice on the birdseye maple (even though i hate inlays on any figured wood...)

i'm really liking Carvins new metallic finishes. with the fretboard you're going with, i think the Evergreen metallic or Electric Blue metallic would look great.

anything with abalone inlays looks best with a green, blue or purple finish imo

There was an orange transparent quilt top with blackburst edges posted on Jemsite recently, and it was just killer good looking. I'm off to VH in AC, or I'd look for it. Maybe tomorrow

a dark trans blue would look gorgeous with those woods.

I'm typing this on my knees with my butt in the air. -Drew

LOL. Yeah, it probably was. Keep in mind though, I'm not getting a figured top. So a transparent color over bare mahogany is, I would suspect, going to look a bit dull.

I saw a custom Carvin with a weird green/white burst finish that I'd buy in a heartbeat if they offered it...

Yeah, I go back and forth with the inlays. We'll see....

I think that would be my weirdburst - it truly is an amazingly cool instrument! Why not just call them and and ask for what you would like (that's what I did) - the worst answer you can get is a no... I just asked for white with a wide emerald green burstover and well, that's what I got! I can dream up a few funky metallic bursts right now, that I'd LOVE to see.

I have to agree with you on everything - ditch the inlays and go Evergreen or Electric Blue - it would be a killer combo!

Cheers
